ABCD (which stands
for American Born Confused Desi) is a look into the experiences
of first generation Indian Americans and their struggles to find a common
ground between two very disparate cultures. Through the relationships
and conflicts between a traditional Indian mother played by Madhur Jaffrey
and her two adult American raised children, ABCD explores the emotional
consequences of growing up without a firm cultural identity. Nina is
rebelling against conservative Hindu values and detests the custom of
arranged marriages, her brother Raj has agreed to such a marriage and
feels affection but not love towards Teja, his intended bride, and their
mother, Anju, is trying to cling to her children by controlling their
lives
