LONDON will host the 2012 Olympics after a victory over Paris today. Moscow and New York were knocked out of the race in the first and second rounds. Madrid was knocked out in the third round

The International Olympic Committee has the honor of announcing that the Games of the 30th Olympiad in 2012 are awarded to the city of London. London got the Olympics for the first time since 1948, while Paris had been the front-runner throughout the campaign, but London picked up momentum in the late stages with strong support from Prime Minister as frustrated for a third time in 20 years. Paris hasn't held the games since 1924.

NRI, Lord Swraj Paul has been lobbying in Singapore with Prime Minister Tony Blair and other members for the last two days. The British Government appointed Lord Paul a member of high-powered 12-member board that led the campaign for the Olympic.

  • There will be 9.6million tickets for sale: 8m for the Olympics and 1.6m for the Paralympics.
  • 75% of all tickets will cost less than £50 and offer free travel on London transport.
  • Dining hall will cater for 5,500 athletes at a time.
  • There will have 17,320 beds and provide each athlete with 16sqm floor space.
  • The village will become 3,600 apartments, most of them affordable housing.
  • It is estimated that 80% of visitors and staff of the Games will use rail services to reach the Olympic Park.
  • More than 135,000 hotel rooms will be available within 50km of the Olympic Park - up from 120,000 at the moment.
