Surrey County Cricket Club is delighted to announce that Indian bowler Harbhajan Singh has agreed to join the team for the 2005 season following approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

Singh will be Surrey’s second overseas player, having also retained the services of Pakistan’s, Azhar Mahmood for yet another season.

Singh, 24, has played 39 Test Matches for India and 91 One Day Internationals. His 39 Tests have already yielded 172 wickets at 27.92 that included a match-winning haul of 5-29 in the final Test of the series against Australia at Mumbai.

Steve Rixon, the Cricket Manager, stated:

“This is great news for the Club. He is one of the world’s best spin bowlers and he will relish the sort of pitches produced here at the Brit Oval. I’m looking forward to pre-season training in March and am happy with the balance and size of our squad next year.”

Next season, India will play three Tests and five one-day internationals in February and March against Pakistan, a home series against Bangladesh in April and a one-day series next August in Sri Lanka.
