Los Angeles, May 20, 2023 KP Singh/ Ramesh/ A.Gary Singh

Here are a few highlights of the family-friendly 2023 Asian Fest:

A joyful feast of superb cultural textures greeted the eyes and senses;
an amazing opportunity to learn about the arts, cultures, traditions, and experiences of the participating Asian countries.

A wonderful, accomplished, and delightful Mistress of Ceremonies: The WRTV's Megan Shinn

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett opened the 17th Asian Fest and paid a very welcome and generous tribute to the Asian Americans and the international community for their talents, cultures, and many contributions to the City of Indianapolis. Indiana Governor Eric J. Holcomb sent a beautiful video message declaring May as the Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

Colorful cultural displays highlighted national attractions, fabulous fashions, and iconic heritage. The representatives greeted everyone with a joyful spirit and with much pride, encouraged the visitors to interact, try jeweled crowns, and shared their cultures. There were also several educational displays providing information and promoting consideration to future prospects.

As in each year, several high school students were awarded special plaques for the outstanding scholastic achievements and excelling in many areas.

Continuous entertainment - Music, Dances, Orchestras and Traditional ethnic and classical dances: Chinese Dragon and Lion Dances; and Indian performances - Jenny Bhupatkar Chakrabarti's Bollywood Beats and Anindita Sen's Nrityangan - An Institute Of Kathak Dance's were among the showstopping dances, and many others rocking the place with fun and excitement. The rich diversity of entertainment enriched the spirit with their beauty, surprises, and beautiful presentations.

Many Asian Fest guests were enjoying the ethnic food in outdoor setting by the Downtown Canal as Swan-shaped Paddle Boats packed with families taking a leisurely ride on the Canal.

We saw a happy multicultural and multi-generational crowd of over 2,000 fans and friends enjoying the cultures and colorful performances and a friendly welcoming spirit throughout the festivities.

The Asian Fest is the signature event of the Asian American Alliance, Inc., supported by many passionate supporters and sponsored by many businesses and organizations. We thank the Indiana Historical Society leaders especially President and CEO, Jody Blankenship, and staff as our terrific partners, and the IUPUI for the free parking for Asian Fest patrons.

Indianapolis and Indiana leaders tireless efforts to make Indiana a welcome and a favorable destination over the past fifty years, and of the various ethnic, faith, business, and nationality organizations, are shaping an international cultural renaissance adding once unimagined vitality as they together create a rightful place for all talents, cultures, and cherished experiences, and new investments to advance this promising vision. An enchanting and memorable aura of the 17th Asian Fest at the Indiana History Center was on display to carry home and share with family and friends in Indiana, across the USA, and beyond.

Congratulations and thanks to AAAI President, Rupal Thanawala, dedicated AAAI Board members, sponsors, volunteers, friends and fellow Hoosiers who made this success possible. The attached photos highlight and confirm that pride, and Hoosier Asian promise as partners to our shared future.
