NRI (non-resident Indian) Karan Bilimoria entrepreneur
won the first Indo-British Partnership Award. This
award was set up by the NRI Institute for his outstanding
achievements in enhancing relations between the two
countries.
Tony McNulty, British minister of state for immigration
and citizenship presented the award to Karan Bilimoria,
the founder and CEO of Cobra Beer

Karan Bilimoria, NRI entrepreneur and founder-CEO
of Cobra Beer has won the first Indo-British Partnership
Award for his outstanding achievements.
The award set up by the NRI Institute, UK Chapter,
was given out at its 9th annual banquet held on Wednesday
night. Tony McNulty, MP, British Minister of State
for Immigration and Citizenship, presented the award
to Bilimoria, who is the youngest Chancellor of Thames
Valley University.
Jagmohan Singh, Secretary General, NRI Institute,
said Bilimoria, CBE, as President of the Indo-British
Partnership Initiative, UK, had played a pivotal role
in promoting the business links between the two countries.
The banquet was attended by leading NRI industrialists
including S P Hinduja and G P Hinduja, Chairman and
President respectively of the Hinduja Group, Rami
Ranger, President, NRI Institute, UK Chapter and A
P S Chawla, Co-Chairman of the Institute.
Seventeen others were also honored with 'Pride of
India Awards' on the occasion. Prominent among them
were K B Shankar, Head, South Asian Banking, HSBC
Bank, UK, who set up India Desk to take care of India-based
businesses, C B Patel, Publisher/Editor of Asian Voice
and Gujarat Samachar, UK and Balwant Grewal, Chairman,
India Association who recently undertook a marathon
walk from Amritsar to Kanyakumari in five months to
raise 120,000 pounds for cure of Cancer and AIDS.
Payal Tak, President, CEO, TELESIS Corporation, Maryland,
USA was chosen for the NRI woman of the Year Pride
of India Gold Award. Other award recipients included
Amrit Lal Mediratta, Councillor, Three Rivers District
Council, and UK among others.
