After successfully taking on the multinationals, restaurant
and hotel chain firm Nirulas is embarking on a major
expansion spree by opening 125 restaurants and five
three-star hotels in the next eight years entailing
an investment of Rs 100 crore.
"With a pan-India presence, the company would
foray into foreign markets by 2007," Vikas Attri,
Technical Advisor, Nirulas Corner House, told PTI.
"We are the quick service restaurant chain with
highest footfall. To consolidate, we have decided
to aggressively expand for a pan- India presence,"
he said.
With a modest beginning in 1958, when the group founded
by LC and M Nirula established modern business hotel
in Delhi, Nirulas is now ready for venturing into
the markets other than the north, its traditional
stronghold.
"We have an international plan of opening
stores in those countries with strong NRI population.
We intend to begin our roll out by 2006-07 after having
achieved national presence by then. Countries and
regions targeted are the UK, Gulf, South East Asia,
Canada, Far East and the US," he said.
The upcoming five three-star hotels will have 25
rooms each with tariff ranging between Rs 1,100 to
Rs 1,200. All the five hotels will be opened in the
northern region.
"We are not worried about competition from foreign
food joints like McDonalds. In fact, we have been
quite successful in taking on them. With our presence
in different parts of the country, we will face stiff
competition from Indian companies such the Haldiram.
But our business model has taken these facts into
account," he said.
