Vinay Mohan Kwatra Begins Term as India’s New Ambassador to the U.S., Succeeding Taranjit Singh Sandhu

Vinay Mohan Kwatra, Former Foreign Secretary has officially begun his tenure as India’s Ambassador to the United States, succeeding BJP leader Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
In a statement on X (Formerly Twitter): Kwatra shared his enthusiasm, saying, “It is a privilege to assume the role of Ambassador of India to the United States. Our team at @IndianEmbassyUS is committed to further strengthening this essential relationship.”
Deputy Ambassador Sripriya Ranganathan welcomed Kwatra, expressing, “We are excited to have Ambassador Vinay Mohan Kwatra join us as the new Ambassador of India to the U.S. We look forward to his leadership and collaboration.”
On July 14, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar commended Kwatra for his significant contributions to India’s foreign policy and national security, marking the end of his term as Foreign Secretary. Jaishankar highlighted Kwatra’s strategic expertise and his role in key policy implementations.
Kwatra’s extensive diplomatic career includes positions at the Ministry of External Affairs, the Prime Minister’s Office, and as Minister (Commerce) at the Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C. He also led the Policy Planning & Research Division and the Americas Division, managing relations with the U.S. and Canada.
With nearly 32 years of experience, Kwatra takes on his new role amid strong U.S.-India relations. The White House recently reaffirmed President Joe Biden’s view of the U.S.-India partnership as highly significant, noting close collaboration on critical issues such as the QUAD and the U.S.-India initiative on emerging technologies.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre emphasized the U.S.’s commitment to expanding its “critically important partnership” with India.
