Donald Trump, President US, has proposed replacing the EB-5 immigrant investor visa program with a new initiative called the "gold card," allowing foreign investors to obtain U.S. residency and a path to citizenship for $5 million.

Speaking to reporters, Trump criticized the existing EB-5 program, which grants green cards to foreign nationals investing in U.S. businesses. Instead, he aims to introduce a more direct route for affluent individuals.

“We are going to be selling a gold card,” Trump stated. “It will provide green card privileges and a route to citizenship.” He added that further details will be released soon.

When asked if Russian oligarchs could qualify, Trump responded, "Yeah, possibly. I know some Russian oligarchs that are very nice people."

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick echoed Trump’s stance, calling the EB-5 program fraudulent and inefficient. He emphasized that the administration seeks to replace it with a more straightforward system benefiting the U.S. economy.
The proposed gold card program marks a shift in immigration policy, prioritizing investment-based pathways to citizenship. More details on implementation are expected in the coming weeks.
