Wally Herger, Chico Republican ran unopposed and the three candidates on the Democratic side Jeff Morris, a Trinity County supervisor from Weaverville, Jeff Morris, a Trinity County supervisor from Weaverville and Arjinderpal Sekhon of Yuba City ( a physician and reserve military office) ran pretty close to a dead heat. Yesterday, Dr. Sekhon on telephone told us that he is behind only 59 votes and we are waiting positive results as more couning is going on. Democrat Ajinderpal Singh Sekhon won 32 percent of the vote in California's District 2, losing to long-time incumbent Republican Wally Herger's 64.2 percent.

• Herger finally has a viable Democratic competitor

  A lifelong Democrat I have often gulped hard and supported Wally Herger. I have been motivated not by his politics but by the fact that he is a personable and hard-working representative who seems to provide excellent service to his constituents. These qualities overrode the fact that, with a few exceptions, his vote is usually nothing more than a rubber stamp for administration policies.

  That, added to the weakness of past Democatic candidates, has ensured a cakewalk for Herger in past years. While he probably will win again this year, at least the Democrats have put forward a qualified candidate in A. J. Sekhon, who is both a medical doctor and a lawyer.

  Beside his two doctoral degrees Sekhon is also a colonel in the Army Reserve, having served on active duty during both Gulf wars. With this experience he has an excellent background on the needs of military personnel and veterans. He also has a deep understanding of the geopolitical environment facing us in the Middle East.

  Although, like all freshmen representatives, he may be a bit naïve on the way things are done in the halls of Congress, he impresses me as a quick learner.

  For the first time Herger faces a candidate who in most other districts would be a formidable opponent.

California Congressional District 2 covers- Butte, Shasta, Sutter, Tehama, Yuba, Siskiyou, Glenn, Yolo, Colusa, and Trinity Counties, Key Cities: Chico, Marysville, Redding, Yuba City

He have had a large group of backers - backers that are members of Chambers of Commerce, Fruit growers association, motel owners group, and quickie-mart owners assocation.

A J Sekhon is a Colonel in the United States Army Reserve and has been proudly serving his country for over 22 years. His military education is extensive: United States Air Force War College, Army War College frc, Army Command and General Staff College, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, National Defense Strategy Course from Army War College, RC-National Security Strategy Course from National Defense University, Officers Psychological Operations Course, Officers Civil Affairs Advance Course, and Army Flight Surgeon Course.

Colonel Sekhon has been awarded numerous awards and medals: 5 Army Commendation Medals, 2 National Defense Medals, Global War against Terrorism Medal, Colonel Sekhon is a veteran of:, Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, Colonel is a disabled american veteran. Colonel Sekhon has commanded 4 different medical units.

In 1998, a hospital under his command was the only hospital among all of the active and reserve components hospitals to pass the mobex exercise.

• Colonel Sekhon has been recently selected to command another Combat Support Hospital.
• He provides free medical care to any and all disabled American veterans.

Dr. Arjinderpal Singh Sekhon said that he is running for Congress because:

• Our current leadership is not effectively working for American Citizens.
• Our National Security at a higher risk than ever before.
• America is currently engaged in a war with minimal allies, with no effective plan of action.
• The current majority in both the House of Representatives and Senate have made no effort to control our President's spending, which has led to an outrageous deficit and a constant vote to increase our national debt.
• This Administration is not a party of fiscal responsibility!
• The current tax credit favors America's wealthiest at the cost of lowering funding for education and healthcare.
• Every American has felt the repercussion of this leadership, from families affected by the gas price increase to our own Veterans that have had their benefits significantly reduced. When will this irresponsibility end? We can no longer live on false promises or hopes.
  

It is time for change. It is time to hold those in Congress including Wally Herger accountable for our country's direction. These are the reasons I want to run for office and represent you. This is why I need your support!
