Narendra Modi, Indian Prime Minister, met NRI Rishi Sunak, former UK Prime Minister in New Delhi on Tuesday, calling him a “great friend” of India. Sharing images of their meeting on X, Modi expressed delight in discussing various topics with Sunak and highlighted his passion for strengthening India-UK ties. Sunak was accompanied by his wife Akshata Murty, their daughters Krishna and Anoushka, and his mother-in-law, Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murthy.
Strengthening Economic Relations
During his visit, Sunak also met Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to explore ways to enhance financial cooperation and economic growth between India and the UK. The Sunak family toured India’s Parliament House Complex, visiting key landmarks like the Constitution Hall and Samvidhan Sadan.
Cultural and Sporting Engagements
Sunak’s trip included visits to cultural sites, including the Taj Mahal in Agra. He also attended the India vs. England T20 match at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. Despite England’s loss, Sunak praised Team India and shared his excitement about watching the game with his father-in-law, Narayana Murthy.
As the UK’s first NRI Prime Minister, Sunak’s visit reaffirmed his strong ties with India, fostering closer bilateral relations.
