NRI Warinder Singh Juss, a seasoned solicitor and long-time Labour Party activist, has been elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Wolverhampton West following the 2024 general election. Juss secured the seat with 19,331 votes, representing a 44.3% vote share and a majority of 7,868 votes.
Born in East Africa and having moved to Wolverhampton in 1968, Juss pursued his education locally before earning a law degree from the University of Wolverhampton. His career includes practicing law at Thompsons Solicitors and teaching law at a further education college in Wolverhampton. Active in politics for over 25 years, he has participated in every local and national election since 1997.
Juss’s candidacy in the 2024 election was marked by controversy over the selection process, with notable figures like Claire Darke MBE and Mish Rahman being excluded from the longlist. Despite this, Juss focused his campaign on community issues, social justice, and support for local services, which resonated with voters.
In his maiden speech in Parliament, Juss highlighted his commitment to preserving local landmarks, such as Banks's Brewery, and addressing the needs of his constituents. Known for his strong support of the NHS and community welfare, he notably called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza conflict, diverging from the Labour leadership's stance.
Juss, who has two adult children, actively participates in cultural activities, including playing the tabla at local events, and supports Wolverhampton Wanderers FC. His dedication to social justice and community engagement continues to shape his political journey.
