NRI Gurinder Singh Josan CBE, born in August 1972, has been elected as the Labour Member of Parliament (MP) for Smethwick following the 2024 United Kingdom general election. Josan secured the seat with 16,858 votes, representing 48.0% of the vote share, and achieved a majority of 11,188 votes (31.6%).

Prior to his election to Parliament, Josan served as a councillor for the St Paul’s ward in Sandwell Metropolitan Borough from 2002 to 2010. He has been an influential figure within the Labour Party, serving on its National Executive Committee since April 2020, and is also a member of the West Midlands Strategic Policing and Crime Board.

Josan's commitment to community service is reflected in his roles as a trustee of the HOPE Not Hate charitable trust, a former trustee of the Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Smethwick, and a former national executive member of the Sikh Council UK. He also contributes to education governance as a governor for three schools.

In recognition of his political service, Josan was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2019 New Year Honours.

Beyond politics, Josan is a landlord, owning eight rental properties, which has made him the largest landlord in the current House of Commons.

His election marks a significant milestone for Smethwick, reflecting both his extensive political experience and strong community ties.
