Dr. Ruby Dhalla, MP celebrate Canada's 143rd Birthday at a Seniors
Day celebration for Canada's Day
Dr. Ruby Dhalla, Member of Parliament Brampton Springdale joined seniors
from the Brampton community this past weekend to celebrate Canada's 143rd
Birthday at a Seniors Day celebration for Canada's Day. At the event, Dr. Dhalla recognized the seniors for their contributions to helping strengthen
families and their community. At the celebration Dr. Dhalla also spoke
about her private member's bill C-428 that she introduced in Canada's
Parliament to help ensure all seniors, regardless of country of origin,
receive their Old Age Security benefits after 3 years of residency. "Seniors
form the foundation of our country and deserve to be treated with equality,
fairness and respect so that they may age in with dignity, ” said Dr.
Dhalla.
Dr. Dhalla has also been continuing with her visits to classrooms and schools
to engage young children in the community. In fact, she recently attended a number of graduation ceremonies for elementary and high school students in her riding. "With the upcoming summer holidays there is a great opportunity for young students to get involved in the community and complete their community service hours” said Dr. Dhalla. The Brampton Springdale Youth Advisory Council is an example of youth giving back to the community by developing local and community based solutions for the issues such as violence, poverty and racism.
Dr. Dhalla also attended a number of grand openings for businesses and restaurants recently in the Brampton community. "The energy and enthusiasm of Bramptonians has resulted in a vibrant city where businesses are flourishing and succeeding and contributing to building a robust economy in Brampton" said Dr. Dhalla.
On behalf of all Brampton Springdale residents Dr. Dhalla wishes all
Bramptonians and their families a very Happy Canada Day: "We are blessed to
live in a country which is a symbol of hope where there is equality,
opportunity, and respect. What makes our Country great are the hard working
and dedicated Canadians who have passion and a vision of hope for a brighter
future and better tomorrow. Happy Canada Day to all Bramptonians and all
Canadians".
