Mr. Johal has been a leader in the Calgary Sikh community. He was elected President of Dashmesh Cultural Centre Calgary (the Sikh temple in Calgary Northeast) for two consecutive terms. As president, he was able to create a strong relationship between the Calgary Sikh community and the Calgary Police Services as well as promoting other initiatives and activities.

In 2000, Mr. Johal decided to take his experience in the community to the political stage by becoming an active member of the Liberal Party. He was twice elected president of the Calgary Northeast Liberal Association, and is now taking his involvement a step further as the riding’s Liberal candidate.
