About Hollywood Harv
After completing broadcasting school in 1997, Harv began his
career in broadcasting. Rather than applying for dj jobs, Harv
purchased time on 96.1FM from midnight to 6am, 7 days a week and
created what would be known as Taxi Radio It was the first all
hip hop show on FM in Vancouver. Taxi Radio featured an all star
list of presenters from Vancouvers hip-hop scene, including of
course Hollywood Harv. "We had a great time on Taxi Radio.
It was late night and people would drop in to freestyle. We had
such people as The Rascalz, Choclair, Swollen Members, Brougham
Camp, Maestro, Rahzel, Maxi Priest, Beenie Man, and so many others
drop by." Taxi Radio was a success, but Harv still had a
passion for Punjabi music.
One day a young DJ from Dallas named Sanj showed up and asked
Harv to take one of the days from Taxi Radio and turn it into
a hindi/Punjabi show. They tried it and Grass Roots became a smashing
success. To the stations astonishment, a late night indian show
hosted by Hollywood Harv was the stations most listened to show
after just 6 weeks on air. After nearly two years of being on
the air 7 days a week, Harv closed down Taxi Radio and focused
on Grass Roots. He still hosted a weekly hip-hop show on Brougham
Radio, but Punjabi music was his passion.
In 2000, Hollywood Harv moved to Radio Punjab. They were the
leading all indian station in Canada, broadcasting 24 hours a
day. Harv spent two years with Radio Punjab doing a high energy
Punjabi show. His comedy skits and hilarious antics became legendary.
His commercial production abilities were the best in the industry.
This led to Harv producing commercials and doing voice over work
for numerous TV shows and radio shows. Hollywood Harv had become
a household name in Vancouver. Harv interviewed top Punjabi singers
like Dippa Dosanjh, Sarbjit Cheema, Gill Hardip, Kuldip Manak,
and Gurdas Mann. Harv was also acting at the time and was featured
as a prison inmate sharing a cell with Ice-T in a TV-Series called
Betaville.
In 2001, Harv became the host of the national indian TV show
called Zee-TV on the Vision Network. Harv continued hosting Zee-TV
into 2002. He also hosted on Vancouver based shows such as Ashirvaad
and Asian Connections. This eventually led to voice over work
in the United Kingdon promoting upcoming albums for Envy/Roma.
Harv created a kind of niche market for himself; MCing and hosting
concerts with his flamboyant style.
He has hosted concerts for Dr Zeus, B21, Lehmbar Hussainpuri,
Binder Bajwa, Dippa Dosanjh, JT Money, Jesse Powell, Beastie Boys,
Destinys Child, and many others. Since late 2002, Harv has been
off TV and Radio aside from a few guest spots. He has been focusing
on his music production and his comedy. In the UK over the past
few years, Hollywood Harv has been featured on over 15 albums
doing comedy skits, production, narrations, commercials, introductions,
and as a songwriter. Hollywood Harv still has a major passion
for radio and hopes to be back on the airwaves somewhere in the
world someday soon. "Nothing compares to the high I get when
I'm sitting alone in front of that microphone. Im not saying that
my comedy or my show is better than anyone elses, but if it was
easy, everybody would be doing it."
