Nearly 19,000 foreign criminals and failed asylum seekers have been deported since July as the UK Government intensifies its crackdown on illegal immigration, the Home Office has announced.

Between July 5, 2024, and January 31, deportations surged by nearly 25%, with enforcement efforts bolstered by 1,000 government staff redeployed to tackle immigration crime. This included the UK’s four largest-ever deportation flights, carrying over 850 people.

Illegal working raids have also risen by 38%, targeting businesses suspected of employing undocumented workers. More than 800 establishments—including restaurants, shops, and warehouses—were inspected, leading to 609 arrests.

In January alone, nearly 750 enforced returns took place, including around 360 foreign national offenders. The Government remains firm on its stance, with Home Secretary Yvette Cooper set to join enforcement teams on an upcoming raid.
