Toronto, Oct. 07, 2005
Brig. Mohinder Singh
NRI, (non resident Indian) woman Renu Singh, 42,
resident of Mississauga in Ontario province has been
arrested in an immigration scam.
The Peel Regional Police Fraud Bureau has made an
arrest in response to several complaints about an
immigration scam. Complaints were made that a woman
was passing herself off as an immigration lawyer,
who would assist individuals with their immigration
process.
Fees ranging from $5,000.00 to $10,000.00 per person
were paid to the woman. The victims claim that no
work was done on their behalf and when they advised
that they would go to the authorities, the accused
threatened to arrange for their deportation.
The investigation determined that the woman passing
herself off as a lawyer, has an extensive history
of fraud, and is NOT a lawyer. Renu Singh is charged
with 8 counts of Fraud Over $5000.00, Utter a Forged
Document and Breach of Probation. Renu Singh appeared
for a bail hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice
in Brampton, on Friday, September 30th, 2005. She
remains in custody and is scheduled to appear again
on Monday, October 3rd, 2005.
