Toronto
NRIs, Launches Major Fight Against Immigration Fraud
formed an organization called:
“Canadians Against Immigration Fraud”.
Runaway spouses....
The Canadian Marriage Fraud Victim Society, Vancouver has already
documented 200 cases and believes there are many, many more. "Most
of those that we have involve spouses from India because we deal
largely with the Indo-Canadian community but I think it's happening
in all immigrant communities," says spokesman NRI, an abandoned
bride living in Vancouver. "We believe there are thousands
of cases but people are too embarrassed to come forward."
Another victim SAID, "It is very difficult and Nobody listens
to you."
The Canadian Marriage Fraud Victim Society argues that the program
doesn't do enough to protect Canadians from unscrupulous paramours.
They have presented a 20,000-signature petition to Parliament
requesting that permanent residence should no longer be automatic
for immigrants sponsored here by their Canadian spouses. Instead
they want Canada to follow the example set by the United States
and Australia, where the marriage must last three years before
foreign spouses can attain their permanent papers.
Now, Toronto victims established new organization, reported
by Sampuran Banet:

Canadian Victims of immigration marriage fraud have formed an
organization called: “Canadians Against Immigration Fraud”.
It is registered as a non-profit organization under the laws of
the province of Ontario. The objectives of the organization are
as follows:
• Unite all Canadians interested in the matters of immigration
marriage fraud.
• To gather and exchange ideas, data, and statistics from
victims of immigration marriage fraud.
• To make inquiries to the proper government offices for
further investigation into the matter.
• Provide emotional support to Canadians who are the victims
of immigration fraud.
• To research and establish patterns that is most commonly
used to gain entry to Canada via fraud.
• Rendering assistance to the government by supplying information,
collected as a result of research from victims of immigration
marriage fraud.
• To suggest new ideas and studies to Citizenship and Immigration
Canada, in order to promote the prevention of immigration fraud.
Our current focus is on immigration marriage fraud. A
growing, number of Canadians are being deceived by foreign nationals
to obtain permanent residency status in Canada, through a marriage
of convenience. After landing in Canada, the sponsored person
leaves immediately from the airport or within a short time period.
The victims who suffered from immigration marriage fraud have
been traumatized in so many ways – emotionally, financially,
mentally, professionally, and socially. On September 9,2007, approximately
125 victims and supporters of Immigration marriage fraud from
different communities attended the meeting, which took place at
Burnhamthorpe Community Centre, Mississauga. A prominent Immigration
Lawyer Mr. Cecil Rotenberg addressed the meeting. We had a very
successful meeting, and look forward to helping the victims of
Immigration marriage fraud.
Our organization is collecting information from all the victims,
and promise to seek justice.
Anyone who is a victim of immigration marriage fraud are strongly
encouraged to contact our executive members, and register with
Canadians Against Immigration Fraud for a small fee of $25.
We invite the public, to also get involved to put an end to
this inhuman practice. With the support of victims, family, friends,
community, and supporters, we can create an opportunity for change
to improve the conditions for our country.
