A POLICE party headed by Station House Officer (SHO) Dakha Prem Singh and SHO Sudhar Shavinder Singh swooped down on the properties owned by local president of NRI Sabha Pritam Singh Deol and his two sons Rajpreet Singh Deol alias Raja Deol and Davinder Deol.

The team was accompanied by about 10 armed policemen, and the entire raid was videographed. The police raided the residence of the Deols and also their TELCO farm on GT road near Mullanpur. Till the filling of this report, the raid was going on.

Police officials say that they are searching for the trio, who have to present themselves in the court on March 17. They may then be arrested for inquiry into the fresh cases, say police. A red alert on all international airports has been sounded for the trio, highlight officials.

In the past two days, two news First Information Reports (FIRs) of fraud have been registered against the Deols who are allegedly involved in Hawala transactions. Investigations are on against them for allegedly having committed fraud worth crores of rupees.

Among the latest FIRs, one Kewal Singh, a resident of village Bango, had registered a complaint that one of his relatives living in Brahamton, Canada, sent him Rs 2 lakh. Kewal complained that of this, the Deols paid him only Rs 60,000, and that he did not know about what they had done with the rest of the money. The complaint was registered at Sudhar.

Another complaint against the Deols was lodged at Mandi Gobindarh by one Ranjit Singh Grewal of village Dadheri. Grewal complained to the police that his son had sent him Rs 12 lakh, out which he received only Rs 1 lakh. Grewal added that the Deols refused to pay him the rest of the money. With these two new complaints, the number of cases of fraud against the Deols has gone up to five. The first complaint against them had been lodged in August 2004. After initial inquiry, the court granted Raja Deol bail. Sources say that he has been frequently flying to Canada and back since then.
