Hawala transaction fraud cases against Deol Family
Police alert all airports for Pritam Singh Deol, district president,
NRI Sabha, and his sons Rajpreet Singh Deol and Davinder Deol

Ludhiana, March 13, 2005

A red alert has been sounded at all international airports in India for Pritam Singh Deol, district president, NRI Sabha, and his sons Rajpreet Singh Deol and Davinder Deol.

Giving this information, Jagraon SSP Rajiv Ahir said, ‘‘We had received complaints sent to us by DGP S.S. Virk. After inquiring into these complaints, we found that Deols who deal in hawala transaction, had committed frauds. Hence two FIRs — at Sudhar and Mullanpur Dhakha police stations — were filed. But as the three are likely to be out of the country, we have sounded the alert. We have also dispatched police parties to raid places in India where they are likely to be. Meanwhile, FIRs under Sections 406 and 420 of the IPC have been filed against the Deols.’

Police are hopeful of arresting the Deols who are expected to come to Punjab for a court appearance on March 17.

Giving details, Ahir said, ‘‘Sukhdev Singh, a resident of Koom Kalan village, had filed a complaint, stating that he had sent some money through Deols to his sister in Canada, who was building a house there, but she had not received the money. This FIR has been filed at Mullanpur Dhakha. Also, Harnek Singh and Kartar Singh of Aitiyana village alleged that while on one of their trips to India, they were approached by Deols who ahd urged them to send money through them. Back home in Canada, Harnek Singh had sent some money and in lieu of that was given a Rs 100 note with a code written on it by the family, who assured Harnek Singh that on presenting this note, he would get his money plus the commission, which he had not received. This FIR has been lodged at Sudhar police station.’’ These FIRs also include the name of a manager of Deols and other family members.

The SSP said, ‘‘We have been receiving complaints from people living abroad who have been defrauded by the family. Judging from the complaints, it seems the family has committed fruads worth crores.’’

In August last year, the Jagraon police had registered cases of fraud against the family and had even arrested Rajpreet Singh Deol, who was later granted bail. (Express India, Ludhiana Line)
