NRI (nom-resident Indian) UK 's richest man is to
pay for an entire Mississippi town devastated by Hurricane
Katrina to be rebuilt. He is expected to spend more
than £50m over the next five years rebuilding
Long Beach in Mississippi. He said the effects of
Katrina were heartbreaking and he had
been moved to get involved.
Mr. Mittal will provide capital and the labour to
build the town, the home of 17,000 people. It
will take years to rebuild the affected communities,
he said. These communities are left with challenges
that require innovative, long-term solutions and substantial
commitments of both time and resources. Few cities
were more devastated than Long Beach.
Mittal already sent a a team of engineers and other
experts to assess project and will send teams of builders
to begin the work ASAP.
He had given large amounts to the tsunami victims
and may also halp earthquake in Pakistan. His donations
would put him among the top 10 givers in Britain
