Strike Withdrawn: Case listed for hearing in the Supreme Court
Dr. Saha has withdrawn his hunger strike as this long pending
case has been listed for hearing in the Supreme Court.
We are very happy and hope that we finally win this historic
case against medical negligence and expedited justice is given
to all victims of medical negligence.
We are grateful to all our supporters for their continued support
and encouragement in this long battle.

Today is Dr. Saha's third day of hunger strike. He is doing fine
and we hope to find justice in the coming days. You may join him
in this peaceful agitation for justice against "medical negligence"
and "judicial corruption" in front of the Supreme Court
of India.

Dr. Saha is in the second day of his hunger strike. He is doing
well. For the last four years, Anuradha Saha case was pending
in the Supreme Court of India despite every possible effort. On
the second day of his hunger strike, this case was listed for
the final hearing on the 10th of February 2009.

Historic
battle against "medical negligence" starts in India

After telephone conversation, Dr. Saha
has sent us his 10 demands for the ongoing hunger strike which has
started on Feb. 6.
Our “hunger strike” unto death will continue until:
1) Justice is assured for all victims of “medical negligence”.
2) All cases of “medical negligence” are decided expeditiously
on a “fast-track” within a specified and limited time
period.
3) A fair, impartial and transparent investigation system is established
for investigation of all complaints against the errant doctors/hospitals.
4) Immediate listing of the “criminal negligence” case
(Cri. Appeal Nos. 1191-1194 of 2005) for the wrongful death of Anuradha
Saha, wife of Dr. Kunal Saha, which has been pending before the
Supreme Court of India since 2005.
5) A complete reform of the medical councils in India that have
always shielded the errant doctors without caring for the lives
of the defenseless patients.
6) Strict enforcement of the rules in the MCI “Code of Ethics
and Regulations”.
7) Inclusion of “non-doctor” members in the MCI and
all state medical councils as it is practiced in the UK and USA
as well as the Delhi Medical Council.
8) Independent investigation of fraud and corruption within the
medical councils and exemplary punishment of the guilty individuals.
9) Mandatory autopsy and independent investigation of all deaths
resulted within 10 days after admission of a patient in a hospital/nursing
home.
10) Independent investigation of all allegations of transmission
of HIV/AIDS caused from transfusion of tainted blood/blood products
as a result of substandard test kits.
