The Punjab Youth Congress chief and Congress MP from Anandpur Sahib, Ravneet Singh Bittu, a close confidant of the former Congress chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh was arrested at the Mini Secretariat at Ludhiana along with Lakhvir Singh Payal and Dimple Rana, presidents of the rural and urban district units of the Youth Congress when protesting against SAD-BJP government.
The demonstration against the State Government was organized by District Youth Congress Ludhiana (Rural), in protest against the siphoning of funds of Indira Awas Yojna, by the corrupt officials and the efforts of the State Government in shielding the culprits.
It is pertinent to mentioned that the funds earmarked under Indira Awas Yojna, are meant for the benefit of the poor. The present Akali-BJP Government have failed miserably in implementing the Central Government Schemes in the Punjab State.
According to local media, Rs 1.66 crore of the Central funds released under the Indira Gandhi Awas Yojna for the rural poor was misused, and top ranking ruling party politicians and bureaucrats were trying to save the culprits. It is said that criminal cases have been registered against some of the accused persons but efforts are on to mislead the investigation and save the real culprits
