BJP Kisan Morcha to organise 'Kisan Parliament' in Delhi to discuss challenges faced by farm sector

Jammu, April 24, 2012

National BJP Leader and Kisan Morcha National Secretary, Incharge Jammu and Kashmir Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal announced that Kisan Morcha will hold a two-day "Kisan Parliament" in Delhi beginning May 12 and 13 to discuss the challenges being faced by the farm sector, market insecurities, poor disaster management and increasing prices, among others.

Grewal said a parliament had been necessitated because the government had turned a deaf ear to their demand of convening a special session for discussing the farmers' issues.
Grewal said at the "Farmers' Parliament", former Chairman of the Farmers' Commission MS Swaminathan, journalist P Sainath, BJP National President Nitin Gadkari, Lok Sabha Opposition leader Sushma Swaraj, Rajya Sabha Opposition leader Arun Jaitley, BJP-ruled states' Chief Ministers, among others, had been invited.

He said that "A farmer is a very demoralised man today with rising input costs and hardly any returns. At the parliament, we will take up his concerns as also the lack of infrastructural facilities, the 'poor' Minimum Support Price and Bills presented before the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, Land Acquisition Bill, Seed Bill, Pesticides Management Bill and Biotechnology Authority Bill will also be discussed".
Mentioning a letter from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, written by Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Grewal said it stated that the Central Government's policies were "anti-farmer and the present MSP calculating system is incapable of bailing out farmers from the serious economic crisis they are reeling under". "Pawar's letter echoes the issues the BJP Kisan Morcha had been raising," he claimed, adding that Pawar had vehemently condemned the ban imposed on export of cotton and sugar in the country and termed the decision anti-farmer.

"According to the letter, the prices of cotton have tumbled and sugar is not being exported despite a decision taken in March. It is worrisome as farmers are not getting Rs. 8,000 crore pending towards sugarcane crushing mills,"
Grewal added.
Grewal added that farming and the farmer's vision would also be discussed and held that the BJP Kisan Morcha would continue its agitation demanding Rs
500 as bonus on wheat and the implementation of the Swaminathan Commission's report.

BJP Kissan Morcha will stop the trains in important stations of Jammu and Kashmir on April 3, 2012 demanding bonus of Rs. 500 on per quintal of wheat

.....Grewal Sukhminderpal

JAMMU: March  29 , 2012

BJP Kissan Morcha will stop the trains in important stations of Jammu and Kashmir on April 3, 2012 demanding bonus of Rs. 500 on per quintal of wheat and implementation of the Swaminathan Commission report.

In first phase the Kissan Morcha will agitate in eight states of the country where wheat cultivation is maximum. And, in J&K the farmers will be agitating on the railway tracks and stop the trains at 50 different places in 8 wheat growing States . This information was given by Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal, National Secretary BJP Kissan Morcha & Vice-Chairman PSIEC, Punjab Government, while addressing a  press conference adding that the farmers in J&K are going through a tough phase and we are agitating for our right to live in this country.

While in the first phase the farmers will agitate on the railway tracks, in the second phase the agitation would further move to Delhi where the Kissan union would agitate in front of the Parliament to force the Central government to implement Swaminathan Commission Report at the earliest, he said.
Blaming the UPA government as anti-farmer Grewal said that the Central government' policies are not in favour of farmers and this is the reason that the government is delaying the implementation of Swaminathan Commission Report from last six years. In the report it is mentioned that the farmers should be compensated with the market value of the wheat but the government is ignoring the development of farmers and showing a careless attitude towards the deprived state of farmers which is even forcing them to commit suicide.

To awake the government, which is showing a careless attitude the farmers are forced to take this step of agitation as the BJP Kissan Morcha had earlier also repeatedly requested the Agriculture Minister to announce the bonus of Rs 500 on per quintal of wheat and implement the report of Swaminathan Commission but it seems that the government is least bothered about the necessary requirements of the farmers of the country. Grewal also demanded that apart from wheat other food grain items should also be sold out at minimum support price in the market.
BJP Kissan Morcha State President Karan Singh and Morcha General Secretary Capt. (Retd.) Kasturi Lal Sharma were also present in the press conference.
