Indian student Koyyada Ravi Teja was shot dead by miscreants in
a suspected carjacking case in the US.

Indian-Student Koyyada Ravi Teja, 26-year-old man, was fatally shot by unidentified assailants in a suspected carjacking in New Haven, Connecticut, on Sunday, January 19. Teja, originally from Green Hills Colony in Rama Krishna Puram, Hyderabad, Telangana, was delivering food in a leased car when the incident occurred.
The Consulate General of India in New York confirmed the news in a tweet:
“Deeply saddened to learn about the tragic demise of Mr. Ravi Teja in a shooting incident in New Haven, Connecticut. @IndiainNewYork is in touch with his family and is extending all possible assistance, including repatriation of his mortal remains to India.”
Speaking to the media, Teja’s father, Koyyada Chandra Mouli, said, “We received information this morning that Teja was fired at by unidentified people while he was returning home.”
According to reports, the attack happened near a gas station, where Teja was targeted by the miscreants. He died at the scene.
Teja had moved to the United States in 2022 to pursue a master’s degree. After completing his studies, he attended job trials with aspirations of starting his career.
“He went to the US with high hopes, and now he is returning in such a tragic way,” a friend of Teja said, expressing grief over the incident.
The tragic death of Ravi Teja adds to the growing list of Indian students who have lost their lives in the US. The year 2024 has witnessed a concerning rise in such incidents, with at least 11 Indian or Indian-origin students losing their lives under various circumstances.
The incident has left his family and friends in deep shock, highlighting the risks faced by international students and immigrants in foreign lands.
