The Punjab police is making raids for arresting
NRI Jagpal and his relatives who have gone underground. Manjit's
relatives told the police:
- NRI Jagpaljit Singh and his wife were frequently fighting
over property and a property dispute could be the reason for
the murder
- Manjit Kaur had recently transferred nearly half her property
Jagpal's name which is worth millions of rupees.
- The Husband and wife, both were were working at London's
Heathrow airport, quite well off and had bought properties
in India and UK

NRI Jagpaljit Singh, his mother Harbans Kaur, brother
Mandeep Singh and Mandeep’s wife Meenu were booked under
the charges of murder when they tried to cover up the crime by
claiming it to be a road accident. Actually NRI Jagpaljit Singh
killed his wife Manjit, 40 at a nearby village Bija on Diwali
night.
Jagpaljit Singh told police, "We whole family
went to pay obeisance at a religious place at Payal road on Diwali
night. A unknown vehicle had hit Manjit Kaur resulting in her
death.”

Gurmeet Kaur, brother Arminder Singh and his wife Rajwinder Kaur,
all residents of Phagwara reached Khanna and told their side of
story:
- Two weeks ago, Manjit Kaur and her husband Jagpaljit Singh
had come to India from UK
- Manjit Kaur had got married to Jagpaljit Singh six years ago.
She had divorced her first husband in UK and it was her second
marriage.
- Before marriage, Jagpaljit Singh was living illegally in UK
and he promised to raise Manjit’s daughter from her first
marriage.
- When he got permanent residence, he started torturing Manjit
Kaur. Manjit told us all the incidents.
- Due to circumstances, Manjit sent her 12 years daughter to
a hostel in Dalahousie.
Manjit's Mother Gurmeet Kaur told the police that
her daughter was murdered by her husband and in-laws. The police
had registered a case against Jagpaljit Singh and his family.
The police told media that Manjit had suffered injuries
on her face and arms and her body was sent to the Civil Hospital,
Khanna, for post-mortem.
