Kamaljit Singh and his wife Manjit arrested for stabbing UK NRI

SSP, Mr Cheema told media today that Kamaljit Singh and his wife Manjit were regular visitors to the Jasmer Singh's house and had planned to kill him to loot him. They lived right opposite the Jasmer’s house.

According to the police report, Manjeet prepared the tea and put sleeping pills in it. After drinking the tea Jasmer fell unconscious and Kamaljeet covered his face with a pillow so that he could not raise an alarm. But when they saw Jasmer gaining consciousness, Kamaljeet stabbed him almost 39 times in stomach and chest. They tied his arms and legs with his own turban.

The police arrested the couple from an amusement park and recovered some cash, 140 grams of gold, a mobile phone and two suitcases full of small items such as perfumes and chocolates from their possession.

In January 25, Jasmer Singh, a retired employee of Ford company, came to India with his family for the marriage of his son which was solemnized on February 13. He decided to stay one week more when his family left UK one week ago.

Ludhiana Police said the body of the UK NRI (non-resident Indian) Jasmer Singh, 6o, who lived alone at his home in the Gurmel Park, Ludhiana for the past three months, was found by a neighbor in a pool of blood.

Jasmer's relative from UK, contacted neighbors when he failed to answer their phone calls. The neighbors founded Jasmer lying in a pool of blood, a bottle of whisky and two glasses near him.

Police said he appeared to have murdered by someone known to him after getting him drunk. There were no signs of forcible entry into the house and an autopsy would be carried out to determine the cause.

A case has been registered by the police for further investigation.
