NRI, Sanjay Goel, the Canada-based businessman son
of the NRI obstetrician Asha Goel who was bludgeoned
to death at a Malabar Hill apartment in August 2003,
said on Monday that the Mumbai police should now seek
to extradite Subash Agarwal to India for interrogation.
Subash is Ashas brother.
Visiting Mumbai for the 14th time since his mothers
murder, the businessman, who runs a super facility
cruise travel agency in Canada, thanked the media
for the role it played in highlighting the case. He
praised the police for arresting Pradeep Parab, Manohar
Shinde, Pavankumar Goenka and Narendra Goel
all accused. But he said a lot of progress should
be made by the police since Subash Agarwal still eludes
the police dragnet.
Agarwal, believed to be in Ottawa in Canada, is the
prime accused in the doctors murder. Goel said,
Unless Agarwal is brought to India and grilled,
investigation into the case cant over. Moreover,
he is the main accused in the case.
But Goel, added: There are still certain unexplained
elements as regards the investigation. The murder
was not a random act but one carefully and meticulously
planned. He explained: There were people
who executed the crime, those who masterminded it
and then those who played a role to shield the culprits
from being brought to book.
But the businessman made it clear that he will hand
over the prize money worth Rs 10 lakh to the motley
informers after the conviction of the offenders. There
are around 10 of them, he said.
The motive behind the murder was a plan to apportion
Ashas ancestral properties in Mumbai worth crores.
JK Hargude the investigating officer had said that
Asha scented a plot to eliminate her after she fell
out with her brother Suresh. Asha was particularly
peeved after her brother Suresh tried to upstage Shekhar,
another brother, and decided to share their properties
with Subash (also a brother).
