Nov. 28, 2007: Ottawa's Sikh community attend
a cremation service for Santbir Brar and his wife Amarjeet Brar
yesterday. The cremations were held separately because the facilities
at the Capital Memorial Gardens can only handle two at a time.
Gurindervir, brother of Santbit and other close family friends
assisted with the cremations. Yesterday Police said, the bodies
had been there for "days." Friends have said they were
unable to get in touch with some family members for up to five
days.
Private sources says, the reason for the killings are such a
mystery may be because the Brars were very private and possible
he was trying to protect his daughters from something unknown
to the rest of the family.
From India, Santbir Brar's father is expected to arrive within
10 days at the Ottawa Sikh Society for a public memorial services

NRI Santbir Singh Brar shoot to death his wife, Amarjeet Brar,
and their daughters, Dildeep Brar and Manmeet Brar, before turning
a rifle on himself- taking his own life
On Wednesday, police found the four bodies after receiving a
call from a family member, who asked officers to check on one
of the residents of 175 Grandpark Circle. The officers arrived
at the house around 2 a.m. , no one answered the door. Officers
returned 8 a.m. and saw something that prompted them to force
their way into the locked house. Police entered the home at about
9:15 a.m., after breaking a window on the front door.
According to police, the body of one daughter was found on the
main floor, and the second was found upstairs. Amarjeet's body
was found hidden behind boxes in the basement, while the body
of Santbir Singh Brar was found in the garage, with a gun nearby.
Santbir Singh Brar along with the family had been living in the
house since 2002. The information from neighbors and friends:
- The friend called the Brars a "typical suburban family"
who were "close-knit."
- Neighbors described the family living in the Grandpark Circle
home as reclusive.
- House 'always dark' early around 10 pm
- Other neighborhood said they rarely saw Brar family members,
who would say hello, but not much else.
- It's very hard to understand. They were very shy kind of people.
Police said:
- We also gathering information about the rifle found in the
home and find out how it landed in the hands of Santbir Brar.
- We haven't learned anything from other family members that
points directly to what triggered the father's deadly killing
spree.
- We have confirmed that the male found in the house was the
perpetrator
- The land registry documents identified the owners as Santbir
Singh Brar, 44, and Amarjeet Brar, 46.
- No suicide note had been discovered

Dan Lacasse, who worked for Santbir Singh said:
- Santbir Brar worked as a garage supervisor. He was "very
polite, always stable and hardworking
- He was very outgoing. Always smiling and joking around.
- He oversaw about 30 employees on the 3:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
shift. His duties also included supervising the mechanics who
conducted major repairs.
Amarjeet Brar, wife
Amarjeet Brar was working at the Bay department store. According
to one employee, she always seemed at peace, she always seemed
very calm and she always seemed very happy.
Santbir Singh Brar's brother
Gurindervir Brar is flying back to Ottawa from a trip to India.
He told to his friend on the phone, it has been a "huge shock"
for family members.
