Nikki Rana wins Miss India-UK crown

Last year’s Miss India-UK Amrita Hunjan crowned Nikki after the twenty-year-old beauty beat off stiff competition from 23 contestants from across Britain.

Nikki is a student at De Montfort University and the other four finalists were Jayna Tida, Karishma Sethi, Snehali Naik and Gayatri Pattar. Among the finalists, Nikki was reportedly the only contestant who scored more than 30 out of 40 points with all the judges.

Nikki Rana crowned Miss India UK

Nikki Kaur Rana, aged 20 from Rushy Mead Leicester, was crowned Miss India UK 2005 at the prestigious Miss India UK Finals held at Athena Conference and Banqueting in Leicester on Saturday 5th November 2005.

The sell out event attracted over 700 people from the across the country who witnessed the most exciting Asian Talent and Beauty event of the year in style.

East Midlands BBC 1 News Presenter Priya Kaur Jones and Asian comedian Kevin Sherwani hosted the glittering event.

The 23 finalists came from across the UK all of them competing in three categories: Western Dress: Indian Dress & Talent – where each girl was required to perform a talent in front of the 700 strong audience with the TV camera’s rolling.

The finalsits were all choreographed by Neha Raizada, 1st Runner Up 2004 who had set up her own dance academy. Neha also performed on the night.

The top five finalists were: Nikki Kaur Rana, Jayna Tida, Karishma Sethi, Snehali Naik and Gayatri Pattar who then went through to the Judges question and answer segment.

The tension and suspense then mounted as the winners were announced in sensational style in front of a mesmerised audience who applauded emphatically as Amrita Hunjan, Miss India UK 2004, crowned a stunned and shocked Nikki.

Gayatri Pattar was crowned Vanita Panchal, National Director of Miss India UK and Snehali Naikw as crowned by Miss England, Hammassa Kohostani, Nikki Rana was crowned by stunning Amrita Hunjan Miss India UK 2004 and Miss India Worldwide 2005

The other finalists then rallied around the Nikki congratulating and supporting her as press teams and the audience from all over the country blazed the stage.

‘I was really shocked and so surprised, I couldn’t believe it, it was like a dream, all my effort and hard work had paid off, I am really proud and honoured to have won this title, It has still not sank in, all the finalist were really great , I still can’t believe it’ says Nikki.

Sports science student, Nikki is hoping the title of Miss India UK 2005 will lead to a flood of offers for modelling and endorsements of a wide number of brands that are keen to capitalise on the opportunity of using her to access the Asian and mainstream market in the UK, particularly in beauty products and other brands that are looking for a modern woman who possesses brains as well as beauty.

‘We have a great Miss India UK Winner in Nikki and I am confident she will do very well in the Miss India Worldwide finals taking place in Mumbai in January 2006.’ Adds Vanita

‘I am looking forward to representing the UK in the Worldwide Finals and will be working really hard, there is a great sense of responsibility with this title and I will carry it with great dignity and grace’ says Nikki

Nikki, 5’11 an experienced model dominated the eastern and western segments of the show and performed a dance from a Bollywood movie in the talent section

‘The competition especially the talents was incredibly high, so I knew had to gain as many marks as I could during the walks and put in the best talent performance I could to get into the top 5’ says Nikki

The Judges on the night were Pop Sensation, Raghav who also performed a string of hits to an ecstatic audience
