On August 30, a tragic multi-vehicle accident in Texas resulted in the deaths of four Indians. The victims were traveling to Bentonville, Arkansas, using a carpooling app when their SUV was engulfed in flames following a high-speed collision with a truck. The crash, which involved five vehicles, led to a fire that completely destroyed the SUV.
The deceased have been identified as Aryan Raghunath Orampati from Hyderabad, Farooq Shaik, his friend, Lokesh Palacharla, and Darshini Vasudevan from Tamil Nadu. Due to the intense fire, their bodies were charred beyond recognition, prompting authorities to use DNA testing to confirm their identities.
The tragic incident has been under investigation by the Anna Police Department, with additional assistance from information provided by the carpooling app. The long Labor Day weekend in the US contributed to delays in the identification process, leaving families in uncertainty for several days.
Orampati and Shaik were returning to Arkansas from a visit to Orampati’s cousin in Texas. Palacharla was on his way to meet his wife, and Vasudevan, who had recently completed a Master’s degree from the University of Texas and was employed in the US, was traveling to see her uncle. The accident has deeply affected the Indian community and highlighted the risks associated with long-distance carpooling.
