Sikh Musician “Raj Singh” Fatally Shot Outside Gurdwara in
Alabama, U.S., Amidst Suspected Hate Crime

In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the Sikh community, 29-year-old Raj Singh, a talented musician and member of a Sikh kirtan group, was allegedly shot dead outside a gurdwara in Selma, Alabama. The tragic incident, suspected to be a hate crime, unfolded on Saturday and has left the community in grief and disbelief.

Hailing from Tanda Sahuwala village in Bijnor district, Uttar Pradesh, India, Raj Singh, also known as Goldy, had been residing in the U.S. for over a year with his musical group. The young 'ragi' met a tragic end when unidentified assailants opened fire while he was standing outside the gurdwara.

Despite the passage of five days since the incident, the family of the deceased is still awaiting the post-mortem examination. Gurdeep Singh, Raj Singh's brother-in-law, expressed their distress, saying, "We were informed about the incident by relatives. We have reached out to the gurdwara committee for more information, and they are helping us. We have also appealed to our government for justice and the arrest of the killers."

Contrary to initial speculations of a hate crime, Selma police, as reported by Selma-based news outlet GVWire, stated that there is currently no indication of racial motivation behind Raj Singh's killing. Sergeant Caleb Garcia shared this information, prompting a need for a thorough investigation to uncover the motives behind the tragic incident.
