Charandeep Singh, a 22-year-old from Abbuwal village near Ludhiana in Punjab, ended his life by jumping into Niagara Falls in Canada. Charandeep had moved to Canada ten months ago for studies and was living with friends in Brampton, Ontario. After being missing for a week, his body was discovered by the police, but identification was difficult due to the presence of other bodies in the falls. DNA analysis ultimately confirmed his identity.
Charandeep, the son of Zora Singh, left his mobile phone near Niagara Falls before his death. His friends grew worried when he didn't return home and his phone remained switched off for several days. They posted about his disappearance on social media, which reached his family in Punjab.
Charandeep's uncle, Sukhwinder Singh, who lives in Toronto, returned to Punjab on June 8 and informed the Canadian police. Late on Wednesday, the police confirmed Charandeep's death to his uncle. His mother, Binder Kaur, and sister are heartbroken by the news.
CCTV footage from the incident showed Charandeep jumping into Niagara Falls. Due to the prolonged time in the water, identifying his body took longer. The tragic incident has left his family and friends in deep sorrow.
