Aching Neck and shoulders; could it be stress?

Could it be because you are tired from partying too much over the winter break or is it the thought of getting back to the routine and actually finishing the work that has piled up? You can either ignore all that and keep having fun or if you really have to feel better and get some things done I would like to suggest some simple exercises that you can do for just 5- 10 minutes a day to help relieve aches and pains caused by stress.

You can do these exercises alone in a quite room with low lights and soft music or you can do it while watching TV with the family. What ever helps you relax!

These exercises can be done anywhere as long as you can sit in a comfortable position.

If you like to sit on the floor, cross your legs in front of you, you can sit with your back against the wall for extra support. Let your hands hang over your knees. Or you can sit normally in a chair with feet flat on the floor. Make sure your full back is touching the back of the chair. Rest your hands on your thighs.

Take a deep breath and fully exhale, repeat a few times

Now you are ready for some relaxing exercises. You might be feeling pretty relaxed already!

1. Bend your head down in front of you till you can feel the stretch in the back of the neck without feeling the pain. Hold for the count of 5 and bring your head back to the upright position. Repeat three times.

2. Turn your head to the right till you are looking over your right shoulder, hold to the count of 5. Slowly bring your head in the starting position looking in front. Now, turn your head to left till you are looking over your left shoulder, hold for the count of 5 and bring it back looking in front. Repeat three times.

3. Bend your head down towards your right shoulder, hold for the count of 5. Slowly bring your head in the upright position. Then bend your head down to the left shoulder, hold till you count to 5. Bring you head back to normal upright position. Repeat three times.

Relax in this sitting position for couple more minutes while breathing normally before you run off to another stressful activity.

Enjoy!! Don’t forget to make some time for yourself.
