Will to prepare for the finish

By Veera Mahajan

  • The will to win is not nearly as important as the will to prepare -- Juma Ikangaa

To get to the finish line, or to attain any fitness goal you have to have a will to put in the work required to get there. There definitely has to be the first step to get started, but with that there has to be a proper plan and the commitment to follow that plan before you can ever be sure of reaching your goal. That will to prepare will keep you committed to the plan and if you do that you will, without a doubt see yourself reaching your goal.
For example, if you want to run a marathon, you have to start with your first step, of the first mile. You have to follow a definite plan for how much to run or train every week. If you are prepared to stay with the plan and continue everything thing you put on that training schedule, you will be prepared, and you will cross the finish line for 5K, 10K, ½ marathon or 26.2 mile full marathon or whatever your goal maybe. So, my friends; make a goal, a plan and get started, finishing will just come.

As most of you know thinking of a goal is not as hard as planning to get there. The difficult part is staying with the plan till you get what you want. So, try this, I know it has worked for me. To make sure that you won't give up before you are done, tell someone about what you are planning to do. Actually tell a lot of people so you will not be able to give up. Most people will often ask you how your plan is going, even if it is only to inquire whether you have given up or not. These enquires will become constant reminders and motivators for you. Once they see that you are serious and are sticking with your plan, they will become believers and your supporters. No one wants to prove that they failed, neither will you.

So, define your fitness goal and start preparing to reach that goal. Make an actual plan which lets you start slow with gradual progression towards a final goal by a definite date. Before even getting started, tell someone about your plan and see yourself cross that finish line.

Get started and stay with it!!
Good luck!!
