Born and brought up in India, Veera came to Detroit, MI as a
teenager with her parents and three brothers. Like most immigrants,
she worked to help support her family's move to a new country
while going to school. She earned a Bachelors' degree in Computer
Science from Wayne State University.
She met her husband Rakesh Mahajan in 1984 and got married in
1985. She has two teenage sons, Kunal and Rahul. They are the
focus of her life.
Veera Mahajan is a devoted mom and a business woman. She owned
Deneb Robotics, Inc. (now Delmia) with her husband which they
sold to Dassault Systems in 1997. She took some time off from
work when her sons were very young. As the boys grew and she had
more time, she started getting more actively involved in the business.
Now, as the President and co-founder of Ranal, she oversees the
company's growth plan and strategic positioning in the industry.
She founded and managed a non-profit organization called Punjabi
Club for seven years. The main objective of the club was to help
the members of the Indian (mostly Punjabi) community. It helped
new comers to the Detroit area by giving them a place of belonging
and a support group if they needed help. The club also provided
a ready and enthusiastic audience for the children in the community
to perform and feel good about themselves.
Veera is a philanthropist who wants to give back to her community.
She is always ready to support a good and deserving cause. She
has an especially soft corner for children's issues. Her empathy
for people battling leukemia committed her to train and run the
26.2 mile Detroit Free Press Marathon to raise funds for the cause.
Her interests and zest for life and fitness led her to embark
on a unique Bhangra aerobics video project that brought song and
dance to a fitness regiment, which can be viewed on www.ranal.net.
She is also a freelance writer.
Her multi-faceted personality brings perspective, balance and
freshness to the life of a working mom today.
