Prominent Sikh scholar Dr. Raghbir Singh Bains has been honoured by Rotary Club Surrey Guildford (Canada) for his volunteer and generous services provided to the global society for curbing drug trading, drug addiction, female foeticide, HIV-AIDS and other social evils including domestic violence and pollution of global environment etc. The appreciation was presented to Dr Bains by the Rotary Club President Richard Gibbs, Secretary Lynn Spence, Anup Singh President Canadian Eyesight Global, Jas Cheema Rotarian and Garry Sass Rotarian.

While putting emphasis on the valuable concepts of Sikh faith and its philosophy in the global perspective, Dr Bains asserted that Sikh religion was revealed by Guru Nanak Dev during 15th century and the concept of its universal philosophy was further nurtured by the succeeding nine Sikh Gurus.

Answering the questions of the Rotarians, Dr Bains said that Sikh religion is a monotheistic religion and is upholder of universal peace, brotherhood, universal prosperity and welfare of entire human race irrespective of any body’s caste, colour, creed and origin. While presenting information relating to the universal messages of Sikhism on multimedia, Dr Bains asserted that the Sikh followers are required to do honest labour, share their earnings in charity with the disadvantaged people and respect human values, stick to discipline, integrity, humility and spirituality.  He made it very clear that Guru Nanak Dev championed the cause of women with equal access in spiritual and temporal matters. The Guru required all human beings to keep Air, Water, Earth and global environment clean for a healthy lifestyle over this earth.  Dr Bains added that 30 million Sikhs live in 162 countries of the world and are contributing immensely to the economy and wellbeing of the region wherever they happen to live.

It is worth to mention here that there are around 35,000 branches of Rotary Clubs in the world and their membership is close to 1.3 million. The members are always ready to volunteer their services for welfare of the society.
