:An expert drug therapist and eminent community activist Dr Raghbir Singh Bains of Canada said while addressing the sensitive International Seminar on Drugs and Female Foeticide in Punjab, “the use of drugs is an age old social evil. The legal and illegal drugs are killing the global society mercilessly especially our youth. The People of Punjab are not an exception to the onslaught of the globally killer evils. The government quota of Alcohol on legally auctioned vends in Punjab is jumping high year by year. Contraband drugs like cocaine, heroin, opium, smack, crack, meth, ecstasy, tobacco, Bhang, Ganja, Bhukki and synthetic narcotics etc are costing heavily on human health and finances. Future youth are drifting away from the religio-social and hereditary value system of the society in Punjab. Rapes, prostitution and other scams are rampant. The government machinery, social reformers, religio-cultural mentors and parents seem to be helpless. The age-old problem of female foeticide in India is going bad day by day. Parents, doctors, nurses and radiologists involved in female abortions in the name of gender selection of females are getting scot free”.
