NRI Yugesh Kannan, 23, political science student in National University of Singapore, emerged as the champion of V Supreme, Mediacorp’s Indian talent competition, at its grand finale on Sunday. His stellar performances earned him the prestigious title and a grand prize of S$10,000 (US$7,430).
The competition’s finale was hosted by acclaimed actor and presenter Vishnu M Anandh, winner of the Best Actor Award at Vasantham’s Pradhana Vizha 2024. Yugesh impressed both the judges and audience with his captivating stage presence and remarkable performances, securing the top spot.
In a closely contested finale, Sheena, 20, finished as the runner-up, winning S$6,000, while Yazhini, 18, claimed third place with a prize of S$3,000. The remaining finalists—Krishmita, 20; Alex, 21; and Ashraf, 24—placed fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively, each taking home S$1,500.
Launched to discover and nurture rising talent in Singapore’s Indian entertainment industry, V Supreme began with 12 selected contestants from hundreds of auditions in October 2024. The participants underwent an intensive bootcamp and six weeks of live performances, tackling rigorous challenges in acting, dancing, and hosting before the top six finalists were chosen.
The grand finale pushed the finalists to showcase their versatility through scripted and impromptu acting challenges, as well as a hosting and interview segment. The event also featured special guest appearances by veteran actors Ashwini Nair, Bharathi Rani, Kishore Kumaran, and Sivakumar Palakrishnan.
A distinguished judging panel—including singer-model Annetha Ayyavoo, actor Jabur Deen Faruk, multitalented performer Jaenani Netra, and media veteran JK Saravana—evaluated the contestants on stage presence, technical ability, creativity, and audience engagement. The final rankings were determined by a combination of judges’ scores and public voting.
Reflecting on his triumph, NRI Yugesh Kannan expressed his joy:
“Winning V Supreme feels like a dream come true. This journey has been incredibly challenging, but I am beyond grateful for the experience, the friendships, and the opportunity to showcase my passion. I couldn’t have done it without the amazing mentors, judges, and everyone who believed in me. I’m excited to see what the future holds!”
