Hong Kong NRI's family awarded Rs 1 crore for road accident

NRI Rajesh Khetrapal, 44, from Hong Kong, who was killed in an accident when his car collided with a tractor on the Gurgaon-Delhi road along with his wife and two children on November 19, 2000.

Mrs Shelly Khetrapal, wife of Rajesh and his two children survived and filed the petition for compensation. Rajesh Khetrapal used to make around Rs. 2.00 Lakh per month from his job.

Swarana Kanta Sharma, Motor Accident Claim Tribunal judge, ordered Mohd. Sahid- tractor owner and driver Mohd Hanif to pay Rs 1.6 crore to the family of the victim within 30 days. The judge rejected Mohd.Sahid’s plea he did not own the vehicle and tractor was registered in the name of Chand Ram.

The defense attoney said it was impossible for the Mohd. Sahid and driver Mohd Hanif to pay Rs 1.6 crore and they will file an appeal.
