GDECISION SHOCKING, INCREDIBLE SAYS BADAL
SUKHBIR CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE HIKE WITHDRAWAL

Chandigarh February 20

The Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today described the center's decision to hike fertilizer prices as "shocking, incredible and against all ground economic realities. The government had already dealt a cruel blow to farmers by raising diesel prices and now comes this additional shock."

The Chief Minster said that the decision would particularly hit the farmers in Punjab who produced bumper crops through liberal investments on inputs like fertilizers. "The fact of the matter is that in this year following a season of drought , the farmers should have been given some relief by the government. But on the contrary, each announcement from Delhi seems to push the farming community into thicker and thicker darkness of poverty, indebtedness and despair. How the government at the center has arrived at the decision to put this additional burden on the most miserable section of society is hard to understand and harder still to justify," said Mr. Badal.

In a statement here, Mr. Badal said that the decision would "break the back of the already beleaguered peasantry in the country, especially in Punjab. The peasants are already leading miserable life, unable to get out of the back-breaking burden of farm debts they have incurred to help the country fight the threat of famine. They should have been helped with some government relief rather than being dealt this cruel stroke," said the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile the Deputy Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal president Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal said here today that his party would seek a review of this decision of the center. He said that a delegation of party leaders would meet the representatives of the union government to press for immediate withdrawal of this decision.

SHe said that the decision ran against the Union Government's own declared assessment that the farm sector needed to be given incentives for a second push to agriculture and ensure food security in the country. "The Centre has repeatedly confirmed that the plight of the peasantry in the country was shocking and miserable and that farmers needed to be helped out of the debt trap into which they have fallen because of the escalating costs of farm inputs. In the light of this, it is impossible to understand how the government of India could even think of raising the fertilizer prices," said Mr. Badal

BHATTAL, INSTEAD OF RAJBAHAWAN SHOULD GO TO 10 JANPATH TO GET SAJJAN KUMAR ARRESTED-HARSIMRAT

• PRENEET’S SILENT ENDORSEMENT OF UREA HIKE EXPOSES HER LOVE FOR POWER

Chandigarh, February 20

Member Parliament from Bathinda Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur Badal today lashed at Bibi Rajinder Kaur Bhattal for raising flimsy issues to garner cheap publicity and ignoring the real and burning issues of Punjabis as well as Sikhs.

Describing the submission of memorandum to Governor as a ‘photo op’ drama, Mrs. Badal said that intriguing silence of Punjab Pardesh Congress Party and Mrs. Bhattal on deliberate delay by CBI to arrest Sajjan Kumar despite non bailable warrant against him, speaks itself about the ‘concern’ of Mrs. Bhattal and party for the cause of Punjabis and Sikhs. She said that if Mrs. Bhattal was really concerned, she should stage Dharna at 10 Janpath to force Sonia to put Sajjan and Tytler behind bars. She said that keeping them free, even 25 years after they organised killing of 7 thousand Sikhs, speaks volumes about the true intentions of Congress party.

Questioning the silence of Bhattal and Party on the savage decision of UPA, enhancing the price of urea by 10 percent and decontrolling other fertilizers, the Member Parliament said that Mrs. Bhattal is a puppet of Congress High Command and does not want to annoy them by raising pro Punjab and pro farmers issues, risking her own position in the party. She said that Congress led UPA should first link MSP to Price Index, as suggested by Swaminathan Commission Report before tinkering with the rates of farm inputs. She said that declaring Punjab a Special Agricultural Zone and acceptance of Swaminathan Commission was the only solution to crisis of farm indebtness and by raising the prices of Urea UPA was further pushing them deep in debt.

Surprised over the Preneet Kaur silently endorsing the policy decision in the council of Ministers hiking the price of Urea, Mrs. Badal said that she has no moral right to represent the people of Punjab whose 80 percent has been adversely affected by this decision. She said that if Mamta Banerjee had courage to veto decisions going against West Bengal, the silence of Preneet shows her lust for power and chair.

Mrs. Badal said that Bhattal instead of indulging in Dharna and memorandum politics on frivolous issues, should first learn basic etiquettes of parliamentary democracy, to raise issues of public concern on proper parliamentary forum.
