  • Six Astroturf hockey and eight other stadiums to be floodlit within 12 months
  •  Coaches to get a percentage of player’s prize money
  • Punjab Cups for Nine Games with 25 Lac prize money for each

Chandigarh May 08:

The Punjab Sports Department is all set to introduce ranking of players on the basis of internationally accepted ranking procedure to identify and honour top hundred players in each game.

This was decided by Deputy Chief Minister Punjab Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal  in a meeting held with veteran players of the country to get their feedback on the draft sports policy of the Punjab Government.

Mr. Badal said that the ranking would give an identity to the ranked players and also motivate them to strive hard for improving their rankings day by day. He said that more over by ranking the players we would have a larger identified pool of promising players who could be nurtured for the national as well as international sports meets.

Asking the Sports department to increase the cash incentives to the players Mr. Badal proposed that cash incentive for Olympic Gold Winner be raised from Rs. One Crore to Rs. 2.25 crores, Olympic Silver Medal Winner from Rs. 50 Lac to 1.01 crores and Olympic Bronze Medal Winner from Rs. 25 Lac to 50 Lacs. Similar increase was suggested for Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award from Rs. One Crore  to two Crores. “Hang kasab now… this very moment… or it will too late…

Please for god sake and for the sake of departed souls ..  Media  PL stop it”

“Hang Kasab”….. “kasab ko phansi do” ………… “Kasab must be Hanged”…….. “kasab ko phansi honi hi chahiye” …… “Verdict will be out any moment”…. “Verdict is out ,Kasab awarded death sentence” … “ we are happy with verdict , but hang him soon”

As media fed on public frenzy for days together ,I was reminded of dialogue from K Asif’s Mugle-e-Aazm  when the sculptor was offered to marry Anarkali  to unhook  Akbar’s son Prince Salim  of her .

Consort  : “ Kyun santraash khush ho”

( Are you delighted  O sculptor … to have Anarkali)

Sculptor : “ Khushi ka izhar to kamzaraf insaan karte hain”

“Main to ik kam-akal badhsha ki bakhshishon ka mazak uda raha hoon”

( Jubilation is disposition of men with base intellect,

I  only jeer at the benefaction of an idiot monarch)

There was nothing to rejoice as media made out be , but with television cameras rolling over bursting of crackers , snippets of  riff raffs hailing it to be the judgment day and sadly our public prosecutor ,handling this case, gyrating his hips to flash victory sign as if  it was his personal win..… it was collective lunacy at its worst which highlighted our despicable national psyche .

The only saving grace in Kasab’s trial  was the fairness of judicial system ,the judicial processes and procedures  that are in place even while trying the worst enemy of the state. The legal aid given to Kasab in spite of clinching evidence against him and exonerating other two accused in media loaded public trial, speaks volume of system of justice at work even in the most taxing times.

Kasab , a pawn and no ideologue, had traded his life for money and doctrine of jehad ( holy war) and janat ( haven) . He penetrated Indian borders with his gang   with only purpose to kill ,kill ,kill……… and get killed.  Had Shaheed Tukka Ram Omble not confronted the duo , Kasab and his associate would have joined other members of their gang and too would have met the  same fate as that of other terrorists (whose name even the top anchors of TV channels don’t remember without scribbling them  on piece of paper with their aides help).

Whether Kasab hanged tomorrow …after one week… after one month …..or after a year,  it doesn’t matter,  the fact is he was here to die during 26/11 attack but miraculously destiny intervened  to give him extended life. Now let us not make this junk flicker into reckoning.  Let he not be remembered more than the valiant countrymen who lost lives thwarting nefarious designs of terror factories  and decimate infiltrators who dared to challenge us .

We as nation have to resolve, as we owe an obligation to  martyrs and their families , that whenever anniversaries of such events fall without even obliquely referring to these terrorist rouges , let us cherish only the happy moments they had with their families and friends and see to it that the hardship their kin are facing in coping with impediments are smoothened .

Indian judicial system is at work …… let it work…. Let us not tell it how to work.
