CM GIVES NOD TO FINAL DESIGNS OF 3 PRESTIGIOUS MEMORIALS

ALSO APPROVES HERITAGE VILLAGE PROJECT AT GNDU AMRITSAR

CHANDIGARH MAY 19:

The Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today gave in principle approval to the design and pattern of 3 prestigious memorials to come up at Chhapar Chiri in district Mohali in the memory of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, Chhota and Wadda Ghallughara (holocaust) at Kahanuwan in district Gurdaspur and Kupraheeran in district Barnala where 11000 and 35000 Sikhs were martyred.

A decision to this effect was taken by Mr. Badal at a high level meeting here at Chief Minister’s Office this morning.

The Chief Minister directed the Principal Secretary Tourism Mrs. Geetika Kalha to ensure the completion of these memorials with in a year. He also asked the PWD (B&R) department to invite technical as well as financial bids for the constructions of these state-of-the-art memorials at the earliest. Mr. Badal emphasized the need to allot these projects to the renowned construction companies who had adequate experience and proven technology for executing such projects within a stipulated time frame. Mr. Badal assured the Tourism department that the requisite funds would be made available for the timely completion of these projects.

Mr. Badal personally reviewed the project profiles of these memorials and suggested certain modifications in consultation with Sikh historians and scholars, to be incorporated in these final designs. He said that these memorials would go a long way to perpetuate the memory of these great historic events which were an integral part of our rich legacy.

It may be recalled that the state government had already acquired 20 acres of land at a cost of Rs.22 crore for the construction of heritage memorial which would house Fateh-Minar (victory tower), a museum, an open air auditorium for light & Sound programme to depict the life and philosophy of valiant Sikh warrior.

Later, the Chief Minister also approved the site plan and design of the heritage village ‘Sada Pind Sadi Virast’ to be set up in the campus of Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar over an area of 11.5 acre with an objective to showcase the rural life through this novel concept. The proposed heritage village would be instrumental in propagating the rich cultural legacy amongst the younger generation especially with urban background. Mr. Badal hoped that this unique venture would also attract foreign tourists besides Indian to boost the tourist potential in the state.

Prominent amongst others who were present in the meeting included President SGPC Jathedar Avtar Singh, Tourism Minister Mr. Hira Singh Gabria, Media Advisor to Chief Minister Mr. Harcharan Bains, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. DS Guru, Principal Secretary Tourism Mrs. Geetika Kalha, Vice Chancellors GNDU and Punjabi University Patiala Dr. AS Brar and Dr.Jaspal Singh, Special Principal Secretaries to Chief Minister Mr. KJS Cheema and Mr. SS Sandhu, Director-Special Secretary Tourism Mr. Hussan Lal, Eminent Sikh Historian Dr. Kirpal Singh and Architect Mrs. Renu Khanna.

DR.GURBAKSH CHAHAL CALLS ON PUNJAB CM

OFFERS JOB OPPORTUNITIES TO PUNJABI YOUTH IN IT SECTOR

Youth icon and IT billionaire Dr. Gurbaksh Chahal based at Sans Francisco in USA today called on Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal to share his future plans to offer tremendous job opportunities to Punjabi youth in the IT sector as they were the best brains in the world. 

Dr. Chahal apprised the Chief Minister that Punjabi youth had been immensely contributing towards the growth and development of world wide IT sector. He said that our youth had reversed the stereo typed trend that Punjabi youth were not good at science and technology by exhibiting their rare talent in the promotion of IT sector at international level. Dr. Chahal informed the Chief Minister that he had set up an IT company called Net Solutions here at Rajiv Gandhi Information Technology Park where all the 170 employees were Punjabis.

Taking part in the deliberations, the Chief Minister assured Dr. Chahal that the stage government would extend fulsome support and cooperation to him for implementation of his plans to ensure gainful employment to the youth in IT sector. He asked Dr. Chahal to educate, instruct and inspire the Punjabi youth to exhibit their unbounded talent in the field of IT on the world’s stage. Appreciating the zeal of Dr. Chahal for motivating our youth to take up jobs in IT sector, Mr. Badal said that his government would roll out red carpet to NRIs who were willing to help Punjab to move into gen-next technology.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by his media Advisor Mr. Harcharan Bains and Principal Secretary Mr. DS Guru.

ALL SET  FOR PADDY TRANSPLANTATION

Jalalabad, May 19

Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister Punjab today said that Punjab Government has made all preparations to help the farmers of the state during the paddy transplantation season starting from June 15 this year and Punjab was purchasing power worth Rs. 1800 crores to meet the increased demand of summer season.

Speaking to the media persons during Sangat Darshan at village Arni Wala, Mr. Badal said that there would be sudden spurt of demand for the power after June 15 and Punjab government has finalized the plan to purchase power from different states and national grid worth Rs. 1800 crores to meet the increasing demand of total summer and monsoon season, so that paddy transplantation work should not suffer. He said that farmers have already been advised not to go for paddy transplantation before June 15 in the state interest so that ground water level should not be over exploited. He said that government was seized of the likely shortage of migrant labour during this season and was promoting peddy transplantation machines in a big way. The Punjab Agricultural department was offering Rs. 75000 subsidy for purchase of machines besides Rs. 5000 per acre subsidy if the farmers helps the other farmers in transplantation. He said that besides this migrant labour was being lured by offering various incentives including interest free loans.

Earlier, stressing upon the need of strengthening power transmission network during Sangat Darshan program at Theh Qalander, Mr. Badal said that Punjab would be spending Rs. 650 crores by December this year to strengthen the transmission network and over Rs. 3500 crores would be spent during next two years for this. He said that Punjab was setting up 100 substations of 66 kv substations and 30 substations of 220 kv by December 2010 to improve the transmission network, to check the peak load disruptions in the power supply, besides to check transmission loss. He said that it was SAD-BJP government that has took upon the onerous task of re-lining the 125 years old canal network and was going ahead with Rs. 3700 crores plan to rejuvenate canal network besides re-lining the minors and distributaries. Deputy Chief Minister also laid foundation stone of 66 kv substation worth Rs. 5.32 Crores at village Theh Qalander.

When asked about SGPC election Mr. Badal said that with 65% population of Punjab in the bracket of 18-25 years, the Shiromani Akali Dal would give a chance to young and dedicated faces of the party to fight elections to general house of SGPC. Mr. Badal said that he has called meetings of various frontal organizations of Shiromani Akali Dal at Chandigarh tomorrow and day after tomorrow. He said that in these meetings the party would also decide strategy for SGPC Elections.

Answering the query regarding demand of people of Fazilka for district status, Mr. Badal said that many delegations have conveyed their sentiments in this regard and he would put forward the sentiments of people to Chief Minister for the final decision. Mr. Badal today distributed grant of Rs. 3 crore for development works during Sangat Darshans at Arni Wala and Theh Qalander to 46 panchayats.

PUNJAB DGP UNDERLINES THE NEED TO DEVELOP SPECIAL SKILLS

AMONG POLICE PERSONNEL TO DEAL WITH DIFFERENT DUTIES

Chandigarh, May 19:

Punjab Police has constituted a high powered “Academic & Training Advisory Council” to re-orient and re-design its training parameters in order to improve the overall field police working effectiveness. The first meeting of the Advisory Council was conducted today at Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur under the chairmanship of Mr. P. S. Gill, DGP Punjab. All heads of different wings of the Police departments participated. Apart from that all Zonal IGs, Range DIGs, Commissioners of Police and nominated SSPs also participated in the meeting.

In his address, Mr. Gill announced a series of steps to be initiated at different levels for strengthening police training and other related matters. He said that the police roles have to be redefined in order to meet the growing challenges on different fronts. He said that the police as a profession have to be vibrantly developed into a body of knowledge with regular training inputs, standard working procedures and regular research backup. He also highlighted the importance of developing special skills among police personnel to deal with different roles and duties with a major focus on improved public dealings. He emphasized the importance of developing leadership qualities among police personnel at all levels.

Mr. S. K. Sharma ADGP (HRD&CP)-cum-Director PPA, Phillaur conducted the proceedings of the meeting. He briefed the officers about the recent changes made in the training methodology and contents for Basic, Promotional and Specialized training programmes. He also spoke about the future steps to be taken for bridging the gap between academy training and the fields requirements. In order to improve the quality of training he suggested providing attractive incentives to the trainers posted in the Academy.

An impressive visual presentation on different aspects and issues related to training was presented by Mr. M. F. Farooqui Deputy Director (Indoor) PPA, Phillaur. The presentation was based on an exhaustive research conducted by him in this regard. Earlier the welcome address was presented by Dr. D. J. Singh, Joint Director & Dean of the Academy. The concluding remarks and vote of thanks were given by Mr. B. K. Garg, IGP-cum-Joint Director PPA, Phillaur. Among others who were present on the occasion were Mr. S. M. Sharma, ADGP (IT&T), Mr. Suresh Arora, ADGP (Intelligence), Mr. Rajinder Singh ADGP (Rules), Mr. M. K. Tiwari, M.D. Police Housing Corporation, Mr. C.S.R. Reddy, IG (Provisioning) Punjab along with the Officers and faculty members of the Academy.
