Shiromani Akali Dal
84' massacre issue rocks Punjab again
MAJOR SAD OFFENSIVE AGAISNT AMRINDER CLEAN CHIT TO TYTLER, SAJJAN
THREE MINISTERS ATTACK AMRINDER REMARKS
Chandigarh, May 18:
The Shiromani Akali Dal today stepped up its offensive against the clean chit given by former Chief Minister Captain Amaridner Singh to the prime accused of 1984 massacre of thousands of innocent Sikhs, Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar. The party noted that Amarinder had now become the only public figure in the country to come to the defense of the Tytler and Sajjan.
“Tomorrow, Captain Singh will back track on his stand on the Operation Blue star also.” said three senior Akali leaders and Ministers, Ranjit Singh Brahampura, Bibi Upinder jit Kaur and Gulzar Singh Ranike. They also said that Amarinder’s statement and its timing raised serious questions as it came at a time when the CBI was also trying hard to wriggle out filing charge-sheet in the case. Thus Amarinder was trying to undo what the SAD and the Sikh community had achieved through hard and 26 year long struggle.
In a statement here, Mr. Brahampura, Bibi Upinderjit Kaur and Mr. Ranike leaders said, “It is shocking that he has suddenly emerged from hibernation to defend his friends, Tytler and Sajjan. And in doing so, he has set a unique and unenviable record of becoming not only the only Sikh but the only political leader from any political party in the country to rise to the defense of the massacre accused. This is something no one even from within the Congress has done so far. Why is he doing it and stabbing the Sikh community in the back?”
The Akali leaders asked Amarinder why he had been befooling the Sikh masses all these years by pretending to raise his voice against the alleged killers of defenseless and innocent men, women and children .
Earlier yesterday, Mr. Balwinder Singh Bhunder and Mr. Sewa Singh Sekhwan also attacked Amaridner saying that the the Captain’s action was a desperate attempt by him curry political favour with the Nehru-Gandhi family in order to secure the leadership of the state Congress unit.
"It is unholy deal. Amarinder seems to have told the Congress High Command, 'I will betray my community if you reward and rehabilitate me politically.' He has clearly sold his conscience to the Sonia parivar in his desperation to secure a few petty political loaves " said Mr. Bhunder and Mr. Sekhwan.
The SAD leaders leaders further said that Amarinder's action had rubbed salt in the wounds of the hapless survivors as also heaped insult on the efforts of the eminent legal and civil rights activists of the country who had produced evidence-backed reports against the Congress leaders for their role in the inhuman massacre.
He has also dealt a severe blow to the image of the Sikh community by openly opposing its demand for punishment to the guilty.., said Mr. Bhunder and Mr. Sekhwan.
The Akali leaders further said that the clean chit was in line with the similar clean chit given by the CBI’s and was a part of the process to derail the probe in 26 years old cases of 84’ riots against Tytler and Sajjan. They said that Captain, who tried to emerge as votary of Sikh cause by resigning from Congress Party after Operation Blue Star, has shown his real double face, by disowning his own statement made as the Convener of Sikh Forum.
They said that Shiromani Akali Dal, after 26 years long struggle, could secure filing of charge sheet against Sajjan Kumar and now Captain Amarinder’s deliberate statement on the day of charge sheet was a blatant and crude attempt to derail the judicial proceedings at the crucial juncture of conviction of Tytler and Sajjan. They said that SAD had been demanding setting up of Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of full bench of Supreme Court that should reopen and reinvestigate all 84’ riot cases and Special courts should do day to day hearing as being done 2002 Gujarat riot cases. They said that instead of supporting the demand of justice by SAD, the Captain was trying to scuttle on going probes and cases by giving misleading statements to weaken the cases.

Outsiders welcome, not at expense of loyalists: Amarinder
CHANDIGARH, May 18:
Former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today said, while everybody was welcome into the Congress, but it will not be at the expense of the interests of the workers and leaders who have always stood by the party against all odds.
Reacting to the media reports that some leaders from the Akali Dal-BJP alliance like Jagdish Sahni and others were keen to join the party, Capt Amarinder Singh maintained, while people will be welcome to join the Congress, but at the same time the interests of all those leaders and workers who have long time association and involvement with the party and have stood firm against all odds like vendetta and victimization will be safeguarded come what may.
The former Chief Minister said, there was a strong sense of alienation among several leaders of the ruling alliance and they were looking forward to join the Congress. He observed, given the huge response and show of strength of the party recently at Amritsar and Patiala, these leaders from the ruling alliance now wanted to join the Congress at the earliest.
Capt Aamrinder said, if anybody from ruling alliance is so keen to join the Congress today, the credit must go to those hundreds and thousands of workers and leaders within the party who ensured that party remained strong despite so much victimization at the hands of this government. Hence it is important that the interests of all these leaders and workers are watched and looked after at all costs.
