VISUALLY CHALLENGED CANDIDATES GIVEN APPOINTMENT LETTERS

Chandigarh, 29 June

Punjab’s Health & FW Minister, Prof Laxmi Kanta Chawla here today gave away appointment letters to visually challenged candidates for the posts of clerks and class IV. These new appointees included 4 clerks and 5 sewadars. These employees belonged to different districts of the state and have been selected as per the rules and guidelines of the state govt. Advertisement for these posts were issued and interviews held some time back. While interacting with these employees, Prof Chawla exhorted them to perform their duties with honesty and sincerity.  Sh Satish Chandra, Principal Secretary; Dr J.P. Singh Director Health Services and Dr Ashok Nayyar, Director Family Welfare was also present during the occasion.

CM GIVES MERCY CHANCE TO 408 SUBSTITUTE COMPUTER TEACHERS

CHANDIGARH JUNE 29:

In a significant decision, the Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today gave a special mercy chance to 408 substitute computer teachers to clear the eligibility test within next six months, whose services were terminated by the School Education department on May 28, 2009.

A decision to this effect was taken by Mr. Badal with a deputation of substitute computer teachers here at Chief Minister's Residence this afternoon.

Meanwhile, these substitute teachers would now remain continue in the service but will have to clear the eligibility test within six months.

Prominent amongst others who were present in the meeting included Education Minister Bibi Upinderjit Kaur, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. DS Guru, Principal Secretary School Education Mr. Mandeep Singh Sandhu and Director School Education Mr. Krishan Kumar.

PUNJAB INSTRUCTS GENERAL CATEGORY COUNSELING FOR

ADMISSION IN PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTIONS FIRST

Chandigarh June 29

Keeping in view the interest of reserve categories, the Punjab Government has decided to conduct general category counseling for admission in professional institutions first.

Disclosing this here today a spokesman of the Welfare of Scheduled Castes & Backward Classes Department Punjab said that the decision has been taken to facilitate the reserve categories of students for admission in all professional institutions as well colleges and schools. He said that necessary instructions in this regard have already been sent to all the concerned authorities.

The decision would ensure proper implementation of reservation in admissions in all such institutions, the spokesman added.

Punjab Gatka orientation workshop for teachers from 6 July

Chandigarh 28 June:

With a view to train the students about the Gatka game, the school education department would organize orientation workshop for physical teachers from 6th to 7th July, 2010 at Punjab School Education Board SAS Nagar Mohali.

Disclosing this Mrs. Amarjit Kaur Deputy Director School Education (Sports) said that the ancient Gatka game had been introduced recently into the school sports calendar and it was required to train the physical teachers about this new martial art sport for school competitions.

"For this two days training workshop, teams of Gatka Federation of India (GFI) and Punjab Gatka Association (PGA) would exhibit demonstration matches according to new rules of GFI. Besides this, expert Gatka coaches from GFI and PGA would deliver lectures with power presentations and video films to guide the teachers as master trainers so that they could organize Gatka competitions in the schools ", she added.

80 Lakh worth habit-forming drugs seized in last 5 months - Prof Chawla: Also Advocates for dual citizenship for Hindu-Sikhs living in Pak

Chandigarh, 28 June:

Punjab's Health & Family Welfare Minister, Prof Laxmi Kanta Chawla, reiterated the health department’s commitment towards curbing the menace of illegal sale ‘habit forming drugs’ in the state and said that department is constantly making efforts to check the illegal sale of such drugs. She added that a special drive in this regard have been launched by the department, which drew a good response as in the last 5 months alone, the department has seized drugs worth Rs 7979886/- (approximately 80 lakh) from different medicine shops and wholesalers across the state. She told drug inspectors and health officials of various districts have conducted inspections at 2174 licensed medicine shops, godowns etc and huge quantities of habit forming drugs have been seized from 225 such shops. During this period, drugs licenses of 61 violators were cancelled, whereas licenses of 233 shops have been suspended on account of different violations of the Drugs & Cosmetic Act. Legal action has already been perused against 50 defaulters, under different sections of the Drugs & Cosmetic Act.

Chawla, while speaking further on an another important issue related to the harassment and atrocities being faced by Indian Hindu and Sikh families, who are now Pakistani citizens, said that in this regard she has written a letter to Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, urging him to provide protection to those Indians, who have reached back India after facing harassment in Pak. She said that these people should be allowed to lead normal life in India like any other Indian citizen. Chawla further advocated that Hindu-Sikh society living in Pakistan may  be extended Indian Citizenship, too. She stated that there was already a precedence of dual citizenships for non-resident Indians living in certain countries. However, it needs to be ensured that unscrupulous and anti-national elements those who indulge in militancy and other crimes in our country and later go on to take shelter in Pakistan, must be dealt with sternly and toughest laws.
