PUNJAB GOVT. GRANTS CABINET RANK TO
SARDARNI JOGINDER KAUR TOHRA

Chandigarh, 9 June:

The Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today announced the Punjab Government’s decision to  grant Cabinet Rank status to Bibi Joginder Kaur Tohra, wife of Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra former President of SGPC.

As a mark of respect to the iconic Sikh leader, S. Gurcharan Singh Tohra, the Punjab Chief Minister S. Parkash Singh Badal today set aside normal formalities to grant Cabinet Rank to Sardarni Joginder Kaur, Wife of the 26 times SGPC Chief.

It may be recalled that the previous Congress Government led by Capt. Amarinder Singh had also made promises but these were not fulfilled.

PUNJAB CREATES RECORD IN RECURUITMENT AND
PROMOTION PROCESS IN EDUCATION DEPARTMENT-DR. UPINDERJIT KAUR

Chandigarh, 09 June:

The Punjab Government has created a record in recruiting and promoting the teachers under various categories in the Education Department thereby fulfilling its promises made to the teaching community. Besides this, education reforms commenced in the department, has bring out consolidated and satisfactory results thereby the Punjab has been regaining its previous position of a leading State in the field of education in the country.

This was disclosed by Dr. Upinderjit Kaur, Education Minister Punjab after handing over job letters to the dependents of employees who died in harness in a special camp held here today. She said that about 34,000 teachers had already been recruited by the present SAD-BJP government setting a record in recruitments in the State. Besides this, jobs on compassionate ground were also being taken care of and out of 682 compassionate jobs given so far, 194 teachers and 424 non teaching staff has been given job letters, she added.

The Minister informed that the recruitment process for selection of 7654 teachers had already been completed and screening process for verification of their certificates was under completion. “The officers have been directed to post these teachers within a week to the border/ kandi/ bet areas and rural schools having shortage of teachers on priority basis. Besides this 3654 primary teachers would also be recruited very shortly”, she added.

The Minister said that entire selection process had been completed in a transparent manner and all selections were being made purely on merit basis. It was the firm commitment of the Chief Minister Punjab S. Parkash Singh Badal to fill up the vacancies in priority sectors and provide jobs to the unemployed youth of the state.

Dr Upinderjit Kaur said that all the Government schools in the State would be fully equipped with requisite staff and infrastructure in science, information technology and commerce streams in the coming six months. Adding further she stated that Rs.634 crore had also been spent on the upgradation of infrastructure in elementary schools to provide safe drinking water and toilet facilities in 18,969 schools. In addition, 21 new model schools would be set up in educationally backward blocks in the state. This would entail an expenditure of Rs.63.42 crore. Similarly, 21 women hostels would also be constructed in these educationally backward blocks, she added.

She revealed that her department is finalizing the infrastructural and financial requirements for implementation of the Right to Education (RTE) Act in government schools. "We will place our financial requirements before the state government. That exercise is on and it will be finalized in a month," said Upinderjit Kaur. Adding further she said that by implementing the RTE Act, department would ensure that within three years, every child aged 6 to 14 years would have a school in the neighbourhood. Besides, additional infrastructure including buildings, teachers and finance would be required in implementing the RTE for which the Center must to share a major part to help the state.

The Minister further said that out of 66,00 children out of school, the department has been able to rope in to admit about 33,000 children into the schools from this academic year. “The remaining children who were not able to attend the schools due their domestic compulsions would be persuaded to take admissions in the remedial centers being run by the Sarv Sikhsha Abhiyan”, she said.

Dr. Upinderjit Kaur said that total 618 jobs letters had already been handed over during such seven special camps to the beneficiaries of employees who died in harness. In this eighth camp out of 64 compassionate jobs, 13 teachers and 51 non teaching staff has been given job letters. The education officers have already been directed to hold such special camps quarterly to clear the backlog in compassionate cases, she added.

The Minister stressed that the Punjab Government was fully committed to make revolutionary changes in imparting quality education, state-of-the-art teaching methods and facilities to the teaching faculty so that  Punjabi students could complete at national  as well as international level. In this regard various developments were being made and more were under active consideration.

POWER SAVERS TO BE INTRODUCED IN ALL
MUNICIPAL CORPORATIONS AND COMMITTEES--KALIA

Chandigarh June 9: 

Mr. Manoranjan Kalia, Local Bodies Minister Punjab while presiding over a meeting of the Mayors, Commissioner Municipal Corporations, Deputy Directors and Executive Officers of the Municipal Corporations has directed all the officers to ensure the immediate installation of power savers on street lights within a stipulated time frame so that electricity could be saved. He also said that all the electricity supply to the areas under Municipal control would be metered billing would be based on actual consumption. Discussing the development initiatives to be taken by the department, the Minister said that the progress work of all the major ongoing schemes of the department would be monitored at the highest level and any kind of negligence would be dealt with firmly. He has also directed the officers at the district levels to identify the surplus panchayat land and get it transferred to the respective municipality. He laid emphasis on mobilizing additional financial resources of urban local bodies to cope with the ever rising establishment and development expenses and cutting down wasteful expenditure and plugging of leakages. To ensure fire safety measures, Mr. Kalia directed the officers to take adequate steps towards the up gradation of fire stations come within the municipal limits. Effective fire controlling devices would be made mandatory in the new building bylaws especially where new townships are coming up. He has also asked the officers to ensure the group insurance scheme, which was made mandatory requirement, for the firemen doing hazardous duties. He also said that the electronic display boards should continue as it generates more revenue but should be displayed only at the allowed places. It should not be violative of the directives of Hon'ble High Court, said Mr. Kalia.
