A Workshop on Jan Aushadhi Campaign was organized

at Chandigarh Press Club on 4th June 2010 .

In her Inaugural remarks, Hon’ble Minister of Health Smt. Laxmi Kantha Chawla to bring Genereric Medicines made available by opening at least one shop in every district of Punjab. So far 20 shops have been opened out of 50 shops at All India level. The Hon’ble Minister announced that at least 100 shops will be opened in all over Punjab once the current 20 shops are strengthened and made effective. She appealed to the Government of India to make supplies available at all times.

Mr. Satish Chandra, Principal secretary (Health) government of Punjab explained that the awareness about Jan Auashdi should be made among the public and also to the Doctors and the Chemists.

Mr. Devender Choundhury, Joint Secretary to the Government of India, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers mentioned that very soon the Government will involve NGOs to run Jan Aushadhi Stores along with Government and Private Sectors. He mentioned that there will be a large involvement of the PSUs to produce and make available the Generic Medicines based on the demand created by the Consumers.

Shri Bejon Misra, Founder Trustee, Counsumer Online Foundation, who organized this event, while welcoming the Hon’ble Minsiter, made the delegatges aware of the Objectives of the Jan Aushadhi and how Jan Aushadhi has progress. He congratulated the Government of Punjab, under the able leadership of the Hon’ble Minsiter to take Jan Auashadhi to such a height at a shortest time. On behalf of all the Consumer Organisations, he presented memontoes to the Hon’ble Minister and the Principal Secretary for the excellent work done by them to take the Jan Aushadhi to all the sections of the society. He also appealed to the Hon’ble Minsiter to continue the good work and the Civil Society will always support and encourage her in this movement.

Shri Surinder Verma, Chairman, Citizens Awareness Group, Chandigarh thanked all the dignatories and the delegates present at the event and assured his organization’s full support in such Consumer Awareness Programmes.

CHIEF SECRETARY RELEASES BOOK TITLED

“OFFICE OF SUB DIVISIONAL MAGISTRATE ROOPNAGAR”

Chandigarh June 4:

Chief Secretary Punjab Mr. S.C. Aggarwal to day released a book titled “Office of Sub Divisional Magistrate Roopnagar” written by Mrs. Anandita Mittra, IAS, SDM Roopnagar here today.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Aggarwal said that this book would certainly help the people in general and officers in particular, providing the information regarding the duties assigned to the SDM, the decision making processes involved, budget, beneficiaries and land acquisition projects etc. After reading this book the public could access the information and help from the offices of SDMs in the state.

Mrs. Anandita Mittra said that the information in this book has been compiled to help the common people as per the Right to Information Act. “The duties and work assigned to the office of SDM has been put together in the book. The information is available, both in English and Punjabi and it would be placed on the official website of District Rupnagar”, she added.

Mrs. Mittra further said the the aim of compiling this information wss to make the functioning of the SDM’s office more transparent and to implement the Right to information Act, in letter and spirit. On the occasion Mr. A.S. Miglani Deputy Commissioner Roopnagar and Dr. S. Karuna Raju, Joint Development Commissioner Rural Development and Panchayats were also present.

CM RELEASES BOOK 'JINHAN DHARAM NAHEEN HARIA'

CHANDIGARH, JUNE 4:

Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today released a book "Jinhan Dharam Nahin Haria" a compilation of 'Sikh Biographies: Those who Sacrificed for the Faith' by an eminent Sikh scholar and former SGPC President Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar.

Appreciating Mr. Badungar for his rare intellect and deep insight of the Sikhs history, the Chief Minister said that this book would not only depict the rich legacy of Sikhism but also effectively propagate the ideology and the marshal spirit of Sikhism amongst the people especially the younger generations. Mr. Badal said the heroic deeds of our valiant Sikhs warriors who fought against the oppression and tyranny of Mughal empire had been aptly mentioned in the book.

It may be recalled here that Prof. Badunger had already authored two books namely 'Gurmat Vichar te Sikhi Jivan' and Gurmat Sabhiachar' which had been widely admired by the readers in both literary as well as the Sikh religious circles within the country and abroad. This book in hand depicts Sikh history and legacy of Sikh warriors and scholars like Baba Buddha Ji, Bhai Ghanaya Ji, Shaheed Baba Sangat Singh Ji, Baba Moti Ram Mehra, Bibi mai Bhago, Diwan Todar Mal, Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji, Jathedar Jassa Singh Ahluwalia, Great Sikh General Sardar Bhagel Singh, Akali Phoola Singh, Hari Singh Nalua, Baba Bir Singh Naurangabadi, Maharani Jind Kaur, Sant Nihal Singh, Sirdar Kapour Singh, General Harbakhash Singh and countless Sikhs who sacrificed their lives during different massacres to safe guard human rights and protect the Sikh shrines places.

Prominent amongst others who were present on occasion included Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha Mr. Nirmal Singh Kahlon, Punjab Information and Public Relations Minister Mr. Sewa Singh Sekhwan, Revenue Minister Mr. Ajit Singh Kohar and Media Adviser to the Chief Minister Mr. Harcharan Bains besides Mr. Lakhvir Singh, Pargat Singh Wazidpur and Avtar Singh of SGPC.

PUNJAB TO SET UP 3037 E-GRAM SUVIDHA CENTRES

Chandigarh June 04:

To ensure citizen centric services to the people in the rural areas, the Punjab Government has decided to setup 3037 e-gram Suvidha centres in the villages across the state at a cost of Rs. 90 crore.

Disclosing this here today a spokesman of Punjab Government said that as a follow-up of the announcement made by the Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, an Empowered Committee under the Chief Secretary comprising Administrative Secretaries of various Departments has given in principle the approval to implement the scheme with in a stipulated time frame with in a year.

These e-grams centres would ensure the delivery of basic people friendly services viz delivery of old-age pension, registration of pension for handicapped and widows and disabled persons with an easy access.

The spokesman further said that these centres had been launched with an objective to percolate the various welfare and income-generating schemes besides various citizen-oriented services in a hassle free and an efficient manner. Presently, a large number of services were being delivered at the Panchayat level manually resulting in efficiency, inordinate delay and cumbersome causing lot of harassment to the citizens and making it impossible to measure the quality or standard of services and their effective supervision.

The Spokesman further said that the decision had also been taken to revamp Community Policing Resource Centres (CPRCs) at the district level and set up 90 Suvidha centres at the sub-division level as well as 300 police station outreach centres at the police station level. A sum of Rs. 27 crore was approved for this purpose. Punjab would be the first state in India to implement community policing at such a large scale and in an institutionalised manner. These centres would provide counselling services to resolve disputes related to domestic violence, dowry-related and various other crimes related to women. These would also have facility for lodging complaints against the working of the police personnel and transparent disposal of complaints so lodged. There will also be a victim relief centre which include first-aid facility and free legal aid for the poor. These centres shall also provide services which shall include copies of FIRs and untraced reports, no objection certificates for armed licences, permission for religious and political processions, verification of tenants, registration of servants etc. These centres would run in partnership with the representatives of the community.

The Empowered Committee also directed the departments to implement integrated e-tendering with the lead being taken by the Department of Industry and Commerce for streamlining the procurement. The Department of Social Security and Women and Child Department and Department of Welfare had been directed to streamline the implementation of the old-age pension and Shagun schemes as per the recommendations of the Reforms Commission.

The spokesmen further said that in another meeting the Vice Chancellors of Central University, Bathinda; Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana; Baba Farid Medical University of Health Sciences, Faridkot; Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar; Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar; Punjab University, Patiala; Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Science University, Ludhiana, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala; and Panjab University, Chandigarh, the Chief Secretary asked the Vice Chancellors to ensure implementation of these instructions of the government regarding elimination of affidavits, filing of attested copies of various examination and other certificates including backward area and scheduled castes immediately to the advantage of lakhs of students seeking admission at various levels in these universities.

BADAL RELEASES PUNJABI AND ENGLISH VERSION OF 'THE PUNJAB-AN OVERVIEW' BY DR. S.P. GUPTA

Chandigarh, June 4:

Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today released the Punjabi and English version of 'Punjab Aj Te Kal' (The Punjab-An overview): Punjab At A Glance, authored by an eminent economist Dr. S.P. Gupta.

On the occasion, Mr. Badal commended the decade long efforts of Dr. Gupta in conceptualizing his work based on the historic, social and economic aspects of the state. This book had aptly highlighted the cultural heritage, folk culture, social and religious movements in Punjab along with its role in the freedom struggle. The Chief Minister hoped that it would be a useful publication as a reference book for general readers, researchers, teachers, administrators, planners and students.

Expressing his views about this book, Dr. Gupta as a keen observer of the economic scene in this region said that historically Punjab had experienced many upheavals and turmoil, which in term had influenced its path of development along with shaping the destiny of the country as its boundaries had been changed due to political, historical and administrative factors. At the time of partition in 1947, the most prosperous and developed areas went to Pakistan and relatively backward Eastern part remained in India. Despite this Punjab has made commendable progress in all the sectors particularly agriculture by ushering green and white revolutions. Today Punjab contributes nearly 40% of wheat and 60% of Rice in the Central Pool, added Dr. Gupta.

In addition to this the book also contained valuable information about Punjab population, new industrial policy, Education policy, Infrastructure, Human Resource development, Panchayati Raj Institutions, Rural development, Poverty alleviation programme and financial health along with challenges particularly from reorganization in 1966 onwards.

SAD CORE COMMITTEE ON POLITICAL AFFAIRS AUTHORIZES BADAL

ON RAJ SABHA CANDIDATE SELECTION

Chandigarh, June 4

The Shiromani Akali Dal Core Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) today unanimously authorized the party patron in chief and Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal to nominate the party's candidate for the forthcoming Raj Sabha poll.

In another resolution, the party demanded that Punjab be paid royalty on the river waters of the state being used by other states, notably Rajsthan. The resolution said that tis was in conformity with the nationally and internationally accepted Riparian Principle according to which only a state through which rivers flow have a right on their waters. The resolution pointed out that the practice of royalty by non-Riparain states is an accepted practice and even Rajsthan and erstwhile princely states of Nabha as well as PEPSU had been paying royalty to Punjab before Independence for the use of waters of its rivers.

The meeting, which was presided over by Mr. Badal, also called upon the center for an expeditious enactment of the Anand Marriage Act for the Sikhs along the lines of similar acts for other religions.

In a separate resolution, the meeting also called upon the center to review the Black Lists of Sikhs facing various charges and to delete the names of those against whom no serious cases can be made out.

The Core Committee also mourned the sad and sudden demise last week of Mrs. Manjit Kaur Sandhu , sister of Mr. Harcharan Bains, Media Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab.

The meeting was attended, apart from Mr. Badal and the SGPC president Mr. Avtar Singh, by Mr. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Mr. Ranjit Singh Brahampura, Mr. Balwinder Singh Bhunder, Mr. Gurdev Singh Badal, Mr. Sewa Singh Sekhwan, Jathedar Tota Singh, Prof. Prem SIngh Chandumajra, Mr. Mahesh Singh Inder Singh Grewal and Mr. Harcharan Bains.
