BADAL REVIEWS ARRANGEMENTS OF WHEAT PROCUREMENT, FLOOD PROTECTION AND LAW & ORDER

 

CHANDIGARH APRIL 09:

Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today reviewed the arrangements of the wheat procurement in the State during the current Rabi Marketing season (RMS) to ensure smooth, efficient and quick procurement and directed the Deputy Commissioners to personally oversee the procurement operations in unison with the functionaries of the Food and Civil Supplies department and the heads of the procurement agencies to undertake the procurement as per their allotted share so that every grain of the farmer is lifted.Addressing a meeting of the Deputy Commissioners and the Senior Superintendents of the Police from across the state here today, Mr. Badal discussed the issues relating to procurement of wheat, law & order and floor protection measures in wake of the ensuing flood season. 

Reviewing the arrangements for the wheat procurement, Mr. Badal asked his Principal Secretary Mr. DS Guru to closely monitor the procurement operations with the Principal Secretary Food & Civil Supplies and other heads of the procurement agencies on the day- to-day basis.  He also asked the Chief Secretary to tie with the Senior Regional Manager FCI Punjab region to issue guide lines to the field officers of the FCI for timely procurement of wheat. 

The Chief Minister also asked the state irrigation department to chalk out a joint strategy to effectively combat any eventuality on account of floods during the ensuing monsoon season.   He directed the State administration to gear up their activities to keep a strict vigil over the situation.  Mr. Badal also asked the Deputy Commissioners to send detailed proposals for the flood protection works to the irrigation department positively by April 15 so that these could be completed well in advance before the onset of the monsoon season.  He said that the vulnerable areas should be earmarked for the flood protection works on the priority to save the life and property from the fury of floods.   He also instructed the Deputy Commissioners to personally supervise all these flood protection works so that these could be executed as per the approved design and specifications.  

Later interacting with the Senior Superintendents of Police, Mr. Badal asked the police administration to maintain law and order and communal harmony in the State besides instilling a sense of security and belongingness amongst the general public thereby following a people-friendly approach.  He asked the police officers to perform their duties with utmost dedication, sincerity and a sense of commitment to serve the people in the right earnest.   He asked the Punjab police to bring an attitudinal change in their behavior to win over the hearts of the people and this could only be achieved by bridging the communication gap between the common man and the police administration.

The Chief Minister asked the Director General of Police Mr. PS Gill to regularly hold the meetings of SSPs to keep a close tab on the law and order situation in the state.  He suggested to intensify the patrolling especially at night to instill confidence amongst the public and stressed the need to keep a strict vigil during day also for maintaining law and order in the state.  Mr. Badal also asked the SSPs not to take a casual approach towards the petty crimes which created a feeling of insecurity amongst the general public rather such crimes must be taken seriously and tackled firmly to win over the confidence of common man.

Emphasizing the need to curb the menace of drugs & narcotics trafficking firmly, the Chief Minister asked the SSPs to evolve an action oriented strategy in tandem with Deputy Commissioners to nab the culprits who were indulging in such heinous crime to allure our youth for their vested interests. 

Later the Chief Secretary held a separate meeting with the Deputy Commissioners to discuss other issues relating to opportunities of employment for the unemployed youth, revenue and general administration.

PUNJABTO FLOAT RS. 800.00 CRORE LOAN

 

Chandigarh, April 9 :


 The Punjab government in consultation with   Reserve Bank of India(RBI) today  floated  Rs. 800.00 crore(nominal) loan  to finance part of Capital Expenditure of Plan Schemes and other development schemes under execution.

According to an official spokesman  the State government today notified  the sale of Punjab Government  Stock (Securities) of 10 year tenure for a aggregate amount of Rs. 800.00 crore (Nominal). The spokesman said that   consent of Central government has already been obtained to the floatation of this loan.

The spokesman said that the government stock would be sold through RBI Mumbai by auction that would be conducted by them in his Mumbai office on April 12,2010. The application form duly filled in with the Competitive and non- competitive bids should be submitted in electronic format, on the Negotiated Dealing System (NDS)to the RBI, Mumbai on April 12,2010 by 12.30 P.M and 11.30 AM respectively. Result of auction would be displayed on its website on the same day and successful bidders would make payment on April 13, 2010.

The spokesman added that this 10 year tenure loan would be repaid at par on April 13, 2020. He said that interest will be paid every half yearly on October 13 and April 13 and cut off yield determined at the auction would be the coupon rate percent per annum of the stock sold at the auction.

The Ninth Session of the Thirteenth Punjab Vidhan Sabha, which was adjourned sine-die at the conclusion of its sitting on  March 26, 2010, has been prorogued by an order of the Governor of Punjab, dated the April 7, 2010. This was disclosed here today by spokesman of Punjab Vidhan Sabha.

162860 TONNES WHEAT PROCURED IN PUNJAB


Chandigarh, April 9:

Government agencies and private millers procured more than 162860  tonnes of wheat  till last evening
Out of total procurement of 162860 tonnes of wheat in all the procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 161786 tonnes of wheat (99.3%) till date whereas private traders procured 1074 tonnes (0.7%) of wheat. Till April 8, PUNGRAIN had procured 17503 tonnes (10.8%) whereas MARKFED procured 18335 tonnes (11.3%). PUNSUP procured 60366 tonnes (37.3%), PSWC procured 13803 tonnes (8.5%) whereas PAIC was able to procure 29950 tonnes (18.5 %) of wheat.

The Central Government agency FCI had been able to procure 21829 tonnes (13.5%). 
The spokesman added that District Patiala with 128677 tonnes of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas District Sangrur  with 14569 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and district Ludhiana with 5843  tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.   

 

The State Government has set up 1650 procurement centres and activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of wheat, the spokesman added.

GUJARAT HIGH LEVEL DELEGATION MEETS PUNJAB CM

A high-level delegation comprising Gujarat State Minister of Forest & Environment Mr. Kiritsinh Rana, State Health Minister Mr. Parabatbhai Patel and Deputy President Bharatiya Janta Party, Mr. Purushottambhai Rupala today met Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Prakash Singh Badal at his official residence. The Minister of Forest & Environment Mr. Kiritsinh Rana also briefed him in detail about the Swarnim Sanklpa Jyot Rathyatra, which is connecting every village of Gujarat. The Chief Minister asked the delegation to motivate the enterprising Gujratis to set up their industrial ventures ion Punjab. ALBERTA LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY IN CANADA TO

 HONOUR SEKHWAN ON APRIL 12

 

Chandigarh April 09

Alberta legislative Assembly, Edmonton      is organizing a special State reception on April 12 in the honour of Punjab Information & Public Relations and NRI Affairs Minister Mr Sewa Singh Sekhwan, who had arrived in Canada on a short trip.

Disclosing this, Mr Gurbhalinder Singh Maarimegha, Chief Editor, Des Pardes Times informed that Mr Sekhwan will be received by Immigration Minister Mr. Thomas Lucazac, Health Minister Mr Jean Zavasdeski, Mr Manmeet Bhullar, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Higher Education, Mr Naresh Bhardwaj, Mr Raj Sharman and Mr Darshan Kang (all MLAs) in Alberta Assembly. He further said that Mr Sekhwan will be taken to Speaker’s gallery for introduction with members. Mr Sekhwan will also call on various Ministers to discuss wide range of issues relating to NRIs.

It may be mentioned here that Mr Sekhwan was given a warm welcome by Punjabi NRIs on his arrival at Calgary airport.
