    Punjab Chief Minister Mr.Parkash Singh Badal today dared the Congress party not to interfere in the religious matters of Sikhs keeping an eye on the forth coming general elections of SGPC, the Mini Parliament of the Sikhs.  

    Extending felicitation to the Punjabis in general and the Sikhs in particular India and Abroad on the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi. At a state level function to commemorate the creation of khalsa panth and symbol of punjab’s rich cultural heritage here, Mr. Badal said that  the Sikhs  would not tolerate any sort of high handedness in their  religious affairs by the Congress as its leadership had always instigating the Sikh community to divide them to take over the control of SGPC. He categorically said the Congress party would never succeed in its nefarious activities to capture the SGPC.

    Talking with the media persons Mr. Badal said that our government have done so many development works as with in a short span of three years as compared to the 60 years of Congress government.  He blamed the congress government for shortage of power, lack of portable water to the people , unemployment problem, less irrigation water for agriculture water, pollution problem and lack of education facilities etc.

    He said that he had taken up the matter with the Union Government for the rejuvenation and strengthen of canal system as  Punjab was providing  more than 50% food grains in the central pool for the food security of the country. Our Government had launched a mega Project to strengthen the irrigation canal system upto the tail ends. Rs. 145 crore was being spent for the repair and construction of  water courses (khalas) in the state under AIBC project.

    Referring to the cleaning of the rivers in the state Mr. Badal said that our government had envisaged a massive plan at a cost of Rs. 1388 crore to make our rivers and canals water free from pollution. Sewerage treatment plants were being setup in 45 cities and towns for the recycle of water for irrigation purposes in the State during the current fiscal.  He further said that all out efforts were being made to make Punjab as a front runner state in the country. He sought people’s cooperation translate our dreams into reality to ensure over all development and welfare of the people.

    The Chief Minister further said that our government had successfully completed more than three years of economic revitalization with government focusing attention on improving fiscal situation and had taken numerous steps putting industrial growth back on rails by executing new industrial policy, people friendly governing atmosphere by implementing administrative reforms.

    To give impetus to higher education in the state, the Chief Minister said that the SAD-BJP government had taken a major initiative to strengthen the educational network at all levels of Schools, Colleges and Universities. A Central university at Bathinda, world Class University at Amritsar and Sri Guru Granth Sahib University at Fatehgarh Sahib were coming up to impart quality and State-of-the-art education in the field of higher education. Apart from this 7 high tech government polytechnic colleges, 13 degree colleges and 21 model schools were being established soon. Mr. Badal said that the poor and bright students would be provided free education in these up-comings Model Schools. He said the school being setup at village Bhagsar would be completed within six months and would impart education in all streams of science, commerce and arts.

    Regarding the  power sector in Punjab Mr. Badal said that the state had  the 6841 MW against total installed capacity 9786 MW which resulted the shortage of  2379 MW . This shortage would be overcome by initiating four new thermal power plants in the state.  In last two years additional capacity of 658 MW has been created in the state.  

    The work on the 540 MW Goindwal Sahib and 1980 MW Talwandi Sabo Thermal Plant, has been in full swing.  Machinery worth Rs 1000 Crore had ordered for Talwandi Sabo Thermal Plant and the order for the same had already been placed by the GVK group for Goindwal Sahib Plant and L&T had started the work to establish 1320 MW Rajpura Power plant. The State government had been vigorously pursuing the case for sanction of coal link with Union Coal Ministry for 2640 MW Giddarbaha Thermal Project.

    Addressing on the occasion Deputy Chief Minister and President Shiromani Akali Dal Mr. Sukhbir singh Badal squarely blamed the Congress Party for shielding the culprits responsible for the 1984 anti sikh riots and dared the Congress leadership to be sincere and honest to bring the guilty to the book immediately, who perpetrated the heinous crime against the Sikhs to assuage the tormented psyche of the victims of the genocide.

    He said , “ it is the irony of the sate that the congress government  instead of punishing the guilty for responsible for this holocaust is being saved by hook or crook”.    Lambasting at Congress, Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal asked it to refrain from anti-sikh activities with an ulterior motive to divide the Sikhs to capture the control of SGPC. He said that the Congress could not befool the Sikhs anymore as they were wise enough to read between the lines.

    Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal further said that the SAD BJP government was a true votary of the common man and always committed for their welfare and prosperity besides safeguarding their rights.  On the contrary Congress through its autocratic style of functioning was far away from the hearts of the people because it never bothered for the welfare of the people at the grass root levels whereas SAD-BJP government was sensitize to their basic problems and could feel their pulse. 

    He said that the SAD-BJP government had embarked upon an ambitious plan to make state power surplus by 2011 by adding four new thermal plants at Talwandi Sabo, Goindwal Sahib, Rajpura, Gidderbaha. He said that our SAD BJP government had initiated pro-poor welfare schemes like atta-dal, Shagun Scheme and old age pension, widow pension.

    Showing deep concern over the growing trend of drug-addiction amongst our youth, Mr.Sukhbir Singh Badal said that the recently concluded International Kabaddi Tournament in which India lifted the trophy by inflicting a crushing defeat to the Pakistan would certainly encourage the youth for sports. He said that the Punjab Government would soon announce the comprehensive  sports policy to promote sports in the State.  He also announced that Punjab Government would soon organize a international Hockey Gold Cup tournament in bid to revive the glory of Hockey in the Indian sports.

    The Conference today adopted a unanimous resolution to urge the central government to take up to vigorously pursue the case of the 17 Indians facing death sentence in UAE. In an another resolution the conference demanded a special  package drought relief to the tune of Rs. 8000 for the production of paddy  by incurring extra cost on the consumption of diesel in wake of drought like conditions. Apprehending 30 % fall in the production of wheat in this year due to instance heat wave the conference  passed  an resolution demanding a bonus of Rs. 100 per quintal on the wheat.  The conference also lauded the initiative of Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal for organizing kabaddi tournament for the revival of the kabaddi – a Punjabi sport in a separate resolution.
