ADGP (CRIME) TO MONITOR DRIVE AGAINST PIRACY

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal today issued
instructions to accelerate drive against piracy especially of
music, films, multi media and software.
Presiding over a high level meeting of Home department, Mr.
Badal said that people have to be educated about the seriousness
of crime of piracy and the piracy mafia could only be wiped out
by launching continuous raids.
Asking ADGP Crime Mr. Rajan Gupta to chalk out the detailed plan
of launching offensive against piracy mafia, Mr. Badal said that
ADGP Crime would be the nodal officer for piracy control and would
be responsible for monitoring these operations.
Stressing the need for taking piracy cases to logical conclusion
of conviction, Mr. Badal said that investigating officers of police
department must assist prosecution authorities and ensure conviction
in most of the cases.
It was informed in the meeting that 372 cases of piracy were registered
during last 6 months and over 50 percent cases have been put in
the court. Mr. Badal said that instead of going after small traders,
the police should go after big fish to nip this evil in the bud.
He said that besides encouraging illegal activities, the trade
of piracy causes immense revenue loss to the state.

64.99 LAKH TONNES PADDY PROCURED IN PUNJAB

Chandigarh, October 23: Government agencies and private millers
procured more than 64.99 lakh tonnes of Paddy till last evening
Out of total procurement of 6499724 tonnes of paddy in all the
procurement centers of Punjab, Government agencies procured 6338274
tonnes of paddy (97.5%) till date whereas private traders procured
161450 tonnes (2.5%) of paddy. Till October 22, PUNGRAIN had procured
1755656 tonnes (27.7%) whereas MARKFED procured 1300538 tonnes
(20.5%). PUNSUP procured 1515257 tonnes (23.9%), PSWC procured
818740 tonnes (12.9%) whereas PAIC was able to procure 621697
tonnes (9.8 %) of paddy.
The Central Government agency FCI had been able to procure 326386
tonnes (5.1%).
The spokesman added that District Ferozepur with 790722 tonnes
of procurement was leading in procurement operations whereas district
Patiala 676963 tonnes of procurement was at second slot and District
Jalandhar with 526240 tonnes of procurement ranked at third position.
The State Government has set up 1600 procurement centres and
activated its total machinery to ensure smooth procurement of
paddy, the spokesman added.
JASPAL KAUR APPOINTED AS STATE INFORMATION COMMISSIONER

The Punjab Government has appointed Mrs. Jaspal Kaur D/o Mr. Jagjit
Singh as State Information Commissioner of the Punjab State Information
Commission.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesman of the Punjab Government
said that the terms and conditions of her appointment as State
Information Commissioner would be notified later.
SUKHBIR BADAL TO BE THE CHAIRMAN OF GRIEVANCES REDRESSAL COMMITTEES
OF BATHINDA AND JALANDHAR
Chandigarh October 23
Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister Punjab would
be the Chairman for the District Grievances Redressal Committees
of Jalandhar and Bathinda district.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesman of the Punjab Government
said that a notification in this regard has been issued today.
NATIONAL WAGES BOARDS FOR JOURNALIST VISITS CHANDIGARH ON OCTOBER

A delegation of National Wages Boards for working and non working
journalist and other news paper employees is visiting Chandigarh
for oral hearing and interaction with the stakeholders of the
newspaper industry in five Northern States of Haryana, Himachal
Pradesh, Punjab, Uttrakhand and Union Territory of Chandigarh
on October 26, 2009 at 11:00 AM in UT Guest House, conference
Room, sector 6, Chandigarh. All the stakeholders of News Papers
Industry are requested to participate in this meeting.
PUNJAB FLOATS RS. 200 CRORE LOAN
Chandigarh, October 23 : The Punjab government in consultation
with Reserve Bank of India(RBI) today floated Rs. 200 crore(nominal)
loan to finance part of Capital Expenditure of Plan Schemes and
other development schemes under execution.
According to an official spokesman the State government today
notified the sale of Punjab Government Stock (Securities) of 10
year tenure for a aggregate amount of Rs. 200 crore (Nominal).
The spokesman said that consent of Central government has already
been obtained to the floatation of this loan.
The spokesman said that the government stock would be sold through
RBI Mumbai by auction that would be conducted by them in his Mumbai
office on October 29, 2009. The application form duly filled in
with the bids should be submitted to the RBI, Mumbai on October
29, 2009 by 12.30 P.M. Result of auction would be displayed on
October 30 and successful bidders would make payment on October
30, 2009.
The spokesman added that this 10 year tenure loan would be repaid
at par on October 30, 2019. He said that interest would be paid
every half yearly on April 30 and October 30 and cut off yield
determined at the auction would be the coupon rate percent per
annum of the stock sold at the auction.
